Rear shock, RP2, losing 10 - 15 PSI / ride

I noticed the RP2 on my new Superfly 100 Elite was losing around 10 - 15 PSI each ride; I generally ride 20 - 35 miles on mostly singletrack with some minor jumps, drops and descents and about four to five miles of intermittent technical sections. There are two climbs of 2-3 miles each, one of which has some technical sections, the other of which is just a lung buster straight uphill...I mention this because I slip the shock into ProPedal for these ascents, and occasionally in a couple of other spots.

Anyway, I took it to the LBS I purchased the bike from who said they would put a new seal kit on it. Done. Rode about 40 miles Saturday making sure the shock was at 200 before the ride, and voila, afterwards it was just under 190. Suggestions/solutions?

Thx,

-EGS

Just pump the shock to your desired setting and remove the pump and immediately reinstall the pump. You will see that the pump takes a small package of air to equalize the pressure between the shock at 200 and the pump at zero.

Yes it does. The pump is pressurized when you attach it to the valve. Let's say you have a shock with an air chamber of 10cc. The pump air chamber is say 1 cc. Attach that pump and the air chamber is now effectively 11cc but the amount of air in the two is the same. Pressure equalizes between the shock air chamber and the pump air chamber. What is a myth is that you loose psi when you remove the pump. If everything is functioning correctly, when the pump is unscrewed, the schraeder valve closes and seals the air in the shock, THEN the seal on the pump head releases air from the pump. Maybe that is what you are thinking about.
