Dear mountain bike world. Our sport used to be gay as fvck. Just admit it and let's move on.
spoken for truth, these new vids are catching up with snow and surf and making us pretty legit...the more the better. I really do believe they are a better watch as well...

I agree with the OP though. I attribute it to too many kids getting laid for their first time in an era of chick pants and having never grown up with AC/DC
I don't wear em, but in defense of tight pants, I'm going to go ahead and post this:
I know, not strictly DH/mountain bike, but I don't even ride urban and that gets me pumped to go ride.

I would also point out that there are lines in that part that 99% of us on this forum wouldn't attempt on a DH bike in full armour while wearing a full-face helmet, let alone on a BMX, in girls jeans and a wife-beater, while being ginger.

I'd also submit that Fuzzy and Todd Lyons 26" jump part in Chainsmoke would still count as a legit video part today.

This also prompted me to go and re-watch the title sequence to the original Chainsmoke and the lineup includes;

Cadel Evans - Current Tour De France Champion
Shaun Palmer - Shaun fvcking Palmer
Mike Metzger - Original FMX legend Mike Metzger, not other dude from Transition bikes Mike Metzger, who is also awesome.
Randy Lawrence - MX mechanic and coach
Fuzzy Hall - First dude to make a living as as BMX dirt jumper
Todd Lyons - The fricken Wildman himself
Tinker Juarez - XC/ultra-endurance legend
Missy Giove - World class marijuana cultivator and distributor, also a handy DH rider, also Missy fvcking Giove

That's one hell of a lineup!

I saw the mention of "On Any Sunday". Jeff Ward has a clip in that at like 6 years old. Nothing compares to that film.
"Faster" "and Faster" Moto GP film insight into that sport from the insiders. I wish for a MTB film like that one.

Fav "Alpha Project" ruckus in the rookies

holy hallelujah and hosannah of hannahs,

I never realized how important it is for "my sport" to grope its way toward being "legit."

I mean, without "legit" status conferred on MTB riding, I might not actually have a stellar "rep" in my "hood"

I might have to go back to just riding bikes, rather than pretending that talking about them with a bunch of poseurs who can't write worth a schitt while pretending they're MTB journalists is just as good as riding bikes.

don't mind me. I'm off to "grow the sport" by convincing a bunch of non-athletic douchebags that they should buy a bike.

Do you ever agree with anyone or are you waiting with that for the time your dick grows back? Because thats the only reason one can be so bitter to post 124 100% negative posts on a forum. Get off the internet and find a help group. You need it.

Also he has a point. I like oldschool movies but from a media point of view newer style movies look more profesional and may attract more media attention = more media sponsorship = more cash = more/bigger cool comps. If the new style movies generate more media impressions, especially outside the sport. We benefit from it.

Though I still wait for freecaster DVD. I loved Rankins editing.

It's amusing how seriously you take this Internet Charade.

I mean, you expect us to believe you're an expert mechanical engineer from Poland.

I'm interested in why "our sport" has a problem with being "legit."

I don't understand that supposed problem. And it's humorous to me. So I joke about it. And then you take it far too seriously and assume a person can't pretend at bitter crankiness.

If you can pretend to be an engineer from Poland, I can pretend to be a cranky old geezer.

I think I stated it many times that Im an incompetend electronics student but I dont count on your reading comprehension. Again follow my advice. If you are willing to come here I know 2 girls who are psychiatric inspectors and Im pretty sure they could get you into a respected institution. Just dont swallow 20 sleeping pills at once. They dont like that.

I watched Earthed 3 on this thread's recommendation over the weekend. It was rad.

But after 40 minutes of that full on, rapid fire editing my eyes glazed over and my synapses were fried.

I guess I like a happy medium between Rankin's UZI style and Porter's bored to tears 3MG.

Maybe I'm looking through rose colored glasses, but I seem to think that the Collective's first film was a great mix of artsy shots, slow mo, and full speed shots of long sections. Their films seem to have gotten worse with each iteration though. Maybe I expect too much, but that's only because all the pre-release marketing hype tells me I should!

William42...you are so right on about videos today and that clip of Sam Hill. I can't watch any of the stuff that's out besides Alex Rankin's stuff either. The Sam Hill clip though? It is so insane and this sounds horrible but, the crash at the end just makes it that much better in a way, if you know what I mean. Not that I wanted to see Sam crash there and he should have won. But watching it you're like "oh man! oh man!" and then that crash is just devastating. It's the link I send people who don't know anything about DH racing...

...this is still my favorite DH video though...no slo mo in this one...and even the music is good!

I also use this video to introduce the sport to people who dont know anything about it.... But Im pretty sure Danny Hart's championship run will be there too.

About the newer videos being worse than the older ones. I think it's quite important to consider that back then (2002 or earlier) we didn't have much access to wc coverage like we have these days..... We had to wait until the end of the season to actually watch a world championship winning run.... Now we have these awesome videos from dirttv, triride, all the teams videos etc. All that coverage is in my opinion good for the sport and it also let us watch different angles of that amazing drift, or gnarly crash, etc (I still love to watch Hill's crash in Val di Sole in slow mo in the NWD 7 or 8, I don't remember)

My 50 cents

I've watched this a dozen times, and it just keeps getting better...
Me too! I can't stop!!!

...and you're right about that Sean Burns clip...he is a fu*king madman!!!

Wait...one more thing. As a long time BMX rider who has gotten old...I wouldn't even want to hang around Sean Burns. He'd die someday right in front of your eyes.

earthed series is what made me want to ride bikes and have fun, not sit on websites and over analyze team and marketing strategy.

Watched this today again. Was lost in my hard drives for a few years now

One of the Strongest WC race movies i would say.
Watched the 3Focus today for the first time. Wow, that was a great movie. Only slow motion footage was when Hill drifted and crashed at Val Di Sole, and in that case it was appropriate, it really showed how he was on the edge of grip for the whole turn.
Otherwise it was just fast riding, but not too fast editing. I loved it.
