Ok looking for opinions on winter all mountain tires for very wet roots and rocks.Have tried Conti Baron 2.3 in hot chilli that is no where near as sticky as my hot chilli Rain Kings, and Maxxis 3c exo minions not happy with either.
Have heard the schwalbe hans dampf are very sticky but the knobs tear off after a few rides.
What do you guys think?

ive been using the rubber queen black chillys and found them to be really good. Im using the 2.5 black chilli der barons on the dh bike. The grip on the rubber queens isn not a good but far better than any of the other all mountain tyres ive tried.

I guess they use a harder compound black chilli for the 2.3 barons makes sense as the super soft stuff does'nt roll as well.

Don't Barons and Rain Kings have the same tread pattern?
this. i believe the rain kings were replaced by the barons.

ive been running the muddy marys on my covert. man, do they HOOK UP in the soaked, but mostly solid wet dirt that exists around the willamette valley. they are pretty aggressive, but loads of fun.

edit: im running the 2.3 MM's in the trailstar compound. the rear tire shows more chundering than the front (to be expected, i suppose). the rear is a little chewed up, but the front's knobs are still mostly square after ~2 months of riding.

Yes the Barons and rain kings are the same tire as the Baron replaced the rain king. The Black chilli compound of the 2.5 versus the 2.3 is softer. The 2.3 baron with the harder compound is not so great on wet roots and slimy rocks that we have here.I live on Vancouver island it rains a lot in the winter.
I thought maybe some RM people might have some ideas on tires for these conditions.
I am not to interested in the schwalbe triple star compound as I have heard that wear incredibly fast and they are not cheap.

Sorry I couldn't help. Best wet weather tire I've used was the 2.5 Rain King. (Garbanzo zone in the pouring rain.)

I don't know.

What's the best mid-January tire for northern latitudes in deciduous forests with high shale content soils?

Might be better to ask yourself why you don't just go ride your bike and learn how to handle different conditions with the same tires.

why am I so "negative"?

why are you freak-tards pretending to work, while surfing the Toobz? if you don't want to work, give your job to someone else, someone who needs the money.

and quit asking stupid tire Qs like what is the best "all mountain" tire for 18deg C at middle latitudes.

Hey Slug

Your mom said just before I stuffed my c**k in her mouth if you do not have anything nice to say do not say anything at all.

For what its worth, Soft rubber compounds get hard and do not grip well when it gets below 35 degree F. If it is warm enough to rain all the tome you should be fine, but if you ride frozen ground I would stay away from the stickier compounds.

This bothers me. I'm guessing your Trails are mainly dirt and roots. Very little rocks and your rear Trailstar is already chewed up. I just mounted my Trailstars hoping they will last longer than the Vertstar, sounds like they might not last that much longer.
