A question for the Chileno monkeys... or monkeys familiar with Chile.

My fam and I are heading down to Chile in three weeks. We'll be spending most of our time with my wife's family in Viña, but we've rented a cabaña in the Pucón area for a week. We're planning on flying to Temuco and renting a car there for the week. Would anyone have any recommendations on what the best place to rent a car is? We just need a car, we won't be doing any 4x4ing... It'll be me, my wife and my 14mo little monkey.

Also.... since this is a biking forum... any recommendations for riding for a day while I'm in the Pucón region? If there's something interesting to ride, and I can rent a decent bike, I've got the go-ahead to take off on my own for a day of riding... I don't mind paying to hire a guide or hook up with a tour if I have to, and if it's worth it. It could be shuttle or xc...

thanks y'all.... :thumb:

well, am from Peru, not very familiar with pucon.

my best bet, would be to stick with the known brands. dollar, avis, etc... insurance is usually mandatory in south america.

Hertz rent a car has an office in Temuco's airport. There's another one called econorent.
The area sorrounding Pucon and Villarica has many nice places to ride. Especially the volcano.

Chillan's bikepark (250-300 miles north from Pucón) should be opening the season during the first days of January.

I can vouch for Chillan's bike park. I was there a couple of years ago before they "officially" opened and it was pretty slick. The backcountry riding is even better... shuttling on horses is certainly different!

I'll be back there in February with a pile of pro DH and freeriders for some good old fashioned photo shooting.

cool, thanks guys. Looks like I'm missing out by a few weeks on some good riding opportunities.... but I'm sure I'll figure out a way to have a good time anyways. again, thanks.:thumb:
