I would be really sorry to hear that ! Regretfully I did not DH 2011 season at all but had rode hard for 8 seasons previously . Its funny im all jazzed up about 2012 & was gonna grab a pass for Diablo real soon because its a real fun place to rip it up i think!! They might as well close it for sking and boarding aslo , its dumping rain out now & all they have is a little blown snow.

sad to see them go....

yet on the other hand, maybe it's time, i remember when they started back in 2001. it was an ambitious/enthusiastic trail crew who served up well maintained trails. and shawn at the beginning few years didn't ruffle feathers with the operation. last few seasons...it's been alittle crappier, and crappier. the intrawest bankruptcy and new owner realignment to focus on winter operations along with this past seasons crazy weather; the flooding, trees down, mud, and horrendous erosion, i think, was the nail in the coffin.

it's always bad to see lift served dh places close, so i hope this rumor isn't true.

^ yea, given the massive ridership in the region, I can't see the spot not happening at all.

I would be really bummed if there was no DH at Mt. Creek next year.

Also, I paid for a season pass.

the rumor i heard is that jabba finally caught solo and the wookie, but then luke skywalker and his friends showed up and mucked everything up. word has it that jabba's floating desert barge crashed into the sarlacc pit and everyone died.

Thats a fantastic memory, because Diablo opened in 2003. The prior operation ended in 2000, so no 2001 or 2002.

Id love to see the place change management, but not close.

jeez, so i was off a few years...i started going there sometime when i was in school (2001-2005). i like riding there, i go there at least once a month when i visit my folks. i don't want to see it close either, but ridership has declined, trail maintenance is inconsistent, shawn burning some bridges, and a resort management that is intensely focused on winter operations at the expense of bike park development.

i'm most definitely not hoping for closure, but there seems to be some writing on the wall...

Losing Diablo would suck. Seems they def. had a ruff year with weather, economy and rider visits. It's amazing how few racers are showing up now compared to the good ol days. ****, I live 5 minutes away and my bike is covered in cob webs from not going. Don't really know why, just busy doing other stuff.

I think it would be great to see the warm weather sweater wearer move on, and let someone with the enthusiasm he had in the beginning take over. While he did more for the sport than most of us combined, seems like he burned some pretty big bridges. And I'm sure $ is number one. Who is going to invest with no returns. Maybe the new owners will step in and keep things running. They put in the mountain coaster and zip line so I guess the lift will be running anyway. Why not let bikers hitch a ride and make a few beans. -----hi cbj, maddog

Diablo most likely wont open, the 2 owners left and the rest of the staff got fired. Its in limbo as to whether mtn creek decides to open it, but the diablo staff is no more, thats official. What will be interesting is what will happen with the little bit thats left of the place, they havent maintained the trails in the last 2-3 years, so my guess is that it would take even the highland crew a year to bring it back to its 2006 glory... Not including the fact that the bottom 500 feet of elevation was lost to the rollercoaster.

My condolences to those who purchased a season pass

demo9, can you elaborate on the construction of the coaster and the loss of trails due to it? didnt get a chance to make it there last year and have been out of the loop

That sucks for locals and for the guys who already paid for passes though (wtf?). Hopefully you used your credit card and can contest the charges.

DAS wall and down is done, leveled, the progression drops, the DAS wall, the sram berm and tabletop, all gone, so even if they do find a new owner they are dealing with less elevation than highland, with no trail crew or dirt. As their biggest local, im not exactly bummed about the situation-although i would 100% support and give the new owners a chance, no reason to hold the location to the original idiot that owned it.

The us open was diablo's attempt to recreate a world cup since the uci didnt recognize the mountain and its race events due to the managements refusal to deal with usac.
but but but, the diablo series is so cool, 5 people enter, i even get to race pro uncontested!

Are you guys being serious? I was gonna try DH for the first time this season at Diablo... I even bought a season pass a few days ago. Should I try and get my money back now? Do you think they'll refund me if the park doesn't open?

yes, and others who have tried got denied. if u used a credit card go to them ASAP, diablow wont refund you anything, they just mark the messages as SPAM, if any of you are lawyers feel free to have fun with this 1, selling season passes to a mtn that probably wont open...

Yes, just go to plattekill

I just filed a dispute with my credit card company. I guess I won't be riding Diablo this year...

And if you guys turn out to be wrong about the park closing, you just cost me the $70 savings from getting the pass early! >:(

You know, if you guys had been just a little quicker to post this information, I wouldn't be in this situation...
Any suggestions for other places to ride? Plattekill is 2.5 hours from me, and while that isn't terrible, I'd still like to have other options available.

well ud better hope that the park opens and u loose 70, better than it not opening at all. This is the first year i didnt buy a season pass in the last 6 years... If i am wrong (which is the best scenario) ill gladly buy it opening day.

my thought is that it probably wont open THIS YEAR. i do think it will re-open, probably under a different name. I hope it does, and hope that somebody can undo the 4 years of neglect on the trail system. 70 bucks isnt much for "insurance" during the scheme of my riding season, by the time i finish in the fall im sure my rate is near 5 bucks a day.

My 2012 plattekill season pass payed for itself just in the diablo afterseason... can you say STOKED!

To the dude getting into the sport, it's honestly not a big loss at this point. Diablo hasn't given any ****s about the customers or the trails in years as others have stated. Buy a Platty season pass...way more trail options, friendly people, no water park, and they're trying to grow the sport not keep up payments on their sports cars lease.

I think the fact that he's a huge douchebag probably has something to do with it also. Threatening your costumers on the internet doesn't really help your business.
