Hey guys,
We had a new DJ spot here in San Diego going strong for the past few months. Almost felt like it was going to be a legal, permanent fixture here. Full pump track, and lots of dirt jumps sized from beginner to expert. We had 8 year olds to 45 year olds riding daily. We had a vice principle (yeah Scott Irwin!) behind the project, an ex-NBA player behind it, and I was told there was talk with a city councilmen. Point is, this spot seemed like it was on it's way to being legit. That was until last week, when the city dozed it. Well... now the fight begins and we could use all the help we can get. Take 10 seconds of your time to fill out this petition, please. Spread the word, share the link, do anything you think will get this out there. The more people behind this the stronger it looks to the city. Facebook, other forums, your friends at work, whatever.
Here's the link:
Environment Petition: Create A Community Bicycle Park In San Diego At The Corner Of Famosa Blvd. & Nimitz Blvd. | Change.org
Fox news did a story on it found here:
Bike Park Built By Point Loma Children Destroyed - KSWB
And here are the before and after shots of the spot:

As you can see there's plenty of potential for the spot, we just need the legal backing, any and all help is welcomed and appreciated.
Spread the word.

signed, pick up a copy of the latest Dirt Rag Magazine. There is a 5 page feature on a project a couple of us took from being a rouge 'outlaw' area to a full scale freeride area with DH/DJ and Skills area...Its a great article and the park is only 10 north of the city of Pittsburgh...might be some good ideas in there for you.

signed, good luck!
We have an MX track get bulldozed. Sweet place. It was all for legal reasons. someone had to get medivacced after falling on the 75ft table top.

You just gotta fight it. A private owner bought the land so the government couldnt do squat. He made it open to all.

Goid luck!

Fred told me about this post and I'm glad I checked it out. I am one of a group of guys who are actively working with the city to make this happen. Another forum suggested the idea of getting a lawyer and architect involved - we have an architect on board but are looking for an attorney....any ideas? Please hit me up at scottlirwin AT gmail DOT com

The good news......we have the tentative support of the city on making some type of community garden / bike park. Want to know more about whats going on? We built a website at tinyurl.com/freeridefamosa - check it out. There are links to flyers you can hand out, updates on our progress, and even a "writing prompt" designed to help children write letters to government re: this project.

And of course...please don't forget to sign the petition. A link to it can be found on the website above.

Thanks again for all of your support.

Scott
