That is kind of ironic given that Gwin is known for not putting crap into his body.
Something to say about RedBull is that they give really amazing support to riders during training and recovering. Look at the Athertons, especially Dan and Rachel. They had the best doctors and trainers around them during their injuriesand recoveries.
It's not all about the money.

Red Bull is interested to give the best athletes the best support possible, so Gwin is a really good match.

I'm pretty sure at the time of his accident and rehab Dan wasn't even a proper Red Bull athlete, they got a lot of respect from me when I saw how well he was being looked after. Plus RedBull make rampage, how can you not like rampage?

All red bull riders get full free coverage in best clinics in Austria. That's what a local RB rider told me. Though I'm pretty sure you get extra support over that too.

I really like Red Bull and whenever I buy energy drinks I almost never buy cheap knock offs because Red Bull has been a supporter of all the best events since day one.

I don't really like the taste of red Bull (unless I'm already pissed and it's mixed with Vodka).. I tend to buy drinks I like the taste of, seems retarded buying a fizzy drink for any other reason.

It's giving back to the sport. What's retarded in supporting a company that supports your favorite sport events, athletes , teams and spots?

For similar reasons I don't buy rockstar. I like the taste but the money they get from us is used in very retarded political campaigns.

Also you've got red bull cola and red bull other stuff but I like regular red bull.

Indeed, my "other sport" being surfing, I thought that the support they give to their Surfers is amazing.
They have raised the level of professionalism in terms of athlete analysis and are constantly trying to take competitive surfing to the next level.

Yes same on snow, they have trainingcamps in NZ in the summer and they have a private snowpark to train in Aspen I think.

A pro Red Bull freeskier form my hometown with a torn ACL told me after surgery he has now the opportunity to train now in Austria. They want to get him back in shape for the summermonths in New Zealand and Chile. They do all kind of stuff, like muscle training, coordination training, massages every day and even water gymnastics.

He said Red Bull is so professional, they only work with the best guys avalaible. Everything gets documented and the training is specifically made for you. He said he worked with three therapeuts at the same time on his weak leg.
It's just amazing you get this support from a company. Basically you WANT be sponsored by Red Bull for this reason.

then send yout $2 straight to your favourite injured athlete, how much of your $2 from each can you purchase actually gets to them?

He's more effective supporting a mainstream energy drink company who's willing to commit their cash instead. Even if every single mountain bike fan sent $2 to their favorite injured athlete every time they felt like drinking a redbull, that still is nothing compared to the resources of a company that pulled in $5.580 billion dollars (EUR 4.253 billion) of revenue in 2011. Might as well throw in with the winning horse.

wow, i guess theres nothing in their contract about "not supporting other brands." i guess that what you gotta do when you bounce around every year
Except for they guys at the very top, there's not much in those contracts in general.

As for riding one bike for NZ series and another for WC, that's what happens when you live in the Southern Hemisphere and have an 'opposite' racing schedule. With no World Cup sponsor lined up you'd be wise to get on a domestic team for the NZ season while looking for a WC sponsor. Nathan Rankin used to do it pretty often too.

Not a matter of "not supporting other brands" at all since he surely signed on with the Devinci backed team after his agreement with Pivot for the NZ season. Make sense?

All comes down to timing, for rders who are on one year contracts its pretty common for them to finish on 31 Dec of any given year. Our National series starts in early January so there are a few world cup riders who don't technically have a ride for our nationals and will ride for local distributors. e.g. Brook, after he won Junior worlds rode for the NZ Turner Distributor for our summer before joining MS Evil.

Some riders won't sign European contracts till February or even March.

You vote? If yes your comment is really stupid but I bet you get a few high fives for being a contratian.

I also wanted to say what bdamschen said but he phrases it better.

don't worry, you're not missing much, they taste terrible. The redbull truck was trying to give them out at dville last summer and nobody wanted them, and kept asking them for regular redbull lol

Funny how there's different incarnations of RB. I remember my first time in Whistler (2003) and we saw RedBull in the market as little cough syrup bottles with Japanese writing all over it... At that point, standard RedBull was commonplace in the U.S.

I'm sorry but anyone who doesn't like RedBull Cola is just plum crazy. I think the name scared a lot of people off. The product itself is one of the healthiest, simplest most refined beverages out there. You can pronounce the ingredients and hell, you can even taste them, because it's a real old-tymey cola and not some perverse corn-syrup vehicle. Long live the RBC!

well, before I get made fun of more, I should defend myself - I don't like regular coke, or soda in general, and I also don't think redbull tastes good. But in regards to redbull cola, in addition to making me feel slightly ill and sick to my stomach like most sodas, it also tastes grosser then most sodas.

Redbull once dropped off a crate of that stuff of outside my dorm building with a note that said "the redbull (cola) is for your next party and the crate is for your next bonfire" I took a case of it to my dorm and it lasted all year. not the best tasting drink.
