lurked quite a bit though :)

according to the timings he made it to the finish line,
so he might have made it out of that crash more or less unharmed.

You don't think 2 days is enough time for a pro athlete to recover from a 40 second sprint?
sunday is the main event -full stopp, so I highly doubt that all of the top dogs gave 100% today, plus it might rain on sunday which will make it even harder........

A few observations:

Brendan's comeback might not be as phenomenal as had been touted. I know he says he was using this race as a gauge to see where he's at with his rehab and prep, but I kinda expected him to be higher than 31st in qualies. I hope to eat my words on Sunday.

Bryn seems to be back on form. Glad to see it.

37th in qualies is not a bad spot for Riffle to be at on his first race on his new bike. 29th for Strobel on a new bike is great to see too.

Someone asked: Fearon is in 49th position.

edited to add: what happened to Stanny? flat? that sucks.
Regarding Brendan...he has been on this new DH bike for about 2 weeks!, not only a new model completely foreign to him, but a DH BIKE! his docs just gave him clear to do proper DHing a few weeks ago. Reconstructive knee surgery in nov. or so, and then he went and had his jaw snapped to pieces in Dec!
He was 15th at the split, so, not particularly slow! Funny how you give it up to Strobel for 37th on a new bike, (which is awesome) but no love for Brendan on a new bike and coming out of medical hell this winter.

Brendans boss Claudio, and I, had talked about being 100% behind Brendan if he wanted to skip this round and focus on WC #2 in June, to better prepare, but Brendan wanted to go and give it his all. Props to the fella.

And talked to Brook on skype this morning, he is one tough motha, he will be in the finals, sore, but in.

Its going to be nasty with the rain eh? i've heard its like ice skates in the mud there?

yikes.

Rain...! i guess it wouldn't be a world cup without it. Does anyone else enjoy the racing more in the dry?

Go Ms Hannah! As for Mcdonalds crash he looked well tired off that jump.

wheel balancing...

"When riders are hitting speeds of 50mph, with a hand-cut tyre and the variation in inner tubes, valve stems etc – then surely that’s a case for having a perfectly balanced wheel."

With 2 days between qualies and finals it's a bit premature to start over analyzing the times as indicative of anyone's form. Lot's a speed can be found in 2 days time, some guys never seem to raise the bar much in qualifying (it's less than 1/10th the pts given in finals), and at this particular round only 16 guys had automatic spots in the finals (Brooke being one of them). No one wants to sit out Round 1.

As for saving it for Sunday. Yes, with a pedal section like that it would be pretty easy to wear yourself out during the week and lose 2 seconds (and 10 places) come finals.

We've got quali times from a less technical and more pedally track than usual (doesn't mean it's bad), 3 months before rd 2, and some people are already predicting who's going to be off the back. Internet brilliance!
Great to have you back posting Lee ! Now I just have to figure a way to get you back racing with us.

Should be a good race. I want to see Minnaar win. And I'm always stoked to see Cedric mixing it up with the top guys.
Fvcking powerhouse. Otherwise no surprises, aside of Gracia. Didn't he have a knee surgery end of 2011? Mad props for qualifying in the top ten!
Yeah, he was in good shape last season until he smashed his knee. I hope he has more luck this season.

Is it me, or does this wheel have wiggly spokes? Are suspension spokes making a comeback? (Old timers anyone?)

Also, noob question: Still top 60 plus protected riders not in the top 60 making Sunday's main?

also, what's that weight to the left of the rim decal? counterbalance for the valve stem?
:coolstorybro::
One of my roommates from college is a professional road racer and he had a race coming up in Colorado where he said they would reach close to 60mph on a decent. He had 2k+ race tubulars and they were so perfectly balanced save for the valve stem, he said when you reach top speeds it was damn scary cause the valve stem would create all sorts of vibrations and weird handling characteristics. Before he went to the race I got the idea to counterbalance the valve stem with electrical tape, I got the idea from watching a guy balance the Carbon Fiber Rotor on an RC helicopter. We got the wheel balanced and went out to a huge hill and I towed him up to about 50 mph into a hill. We finally figured out the right combination of tape and he took the wheels out to the race. He said he got a bunch of weird looks and laughs from other racer but the next year at that same race about half the field had tape on their tubulars.

The XC race is about to be on... Production level seems top notch so far with recaps of the previous season and course discussions live.redbull.tv/

I thought the XC coverage was fantastic. Maybe a bit too many slow motion replays (I'm tired of that music already), but the video feed was great and I thought that Warner actually added a lot to the commentary, with a bit more restrained style. Definitely excited for the DH.

the xc races ended 30 minutes ago. you sure you're not seeing a recording?

edit - yep 'on demand' replay. if they have the event replay up this quick after the actual live coverage i'm impressed. if that's the case for DH it will solve all the non early morning risers time zone issues...

random question - has anyone come up with a workaround to get redbull tv working on ps3? i just tried it and the flash version the ps3 browser uses isn't new enough to feed the content from rbtv.

We just went pro with the movie voice man, boys! We just went pro! Next season, it'll be IMAX.

I think it's awesome by the way. Pumped to see redbull taking it over. I don't even drink the **** but Pumped for their enthusiasm. Although, I hit up the back pack of the redbull girls when I see em gracefully walking through an event! Hope this iPhone app works.
