The ones complaining about no flat section camers. Have you seen helmet cams from that section? It's boring as hell. Not to mention it wouldn't be live because they would overlap if you wanted to see the whole course.

they could have had one cam filming the doubles from the side and then showing the riders entering the pedal section though

Last year they showed the jumps at the start of the flat section. Really could see some speed difference in jumping styles, Gwin went over those like a missle last year. Kind of missed that this year.......

Out of curiosity... anyone know what the viewership split is between xc and dh? I just get the sense that xc has far more cameras, and I'm wondering if their viewership supports that. I suppose it could have something to do with standards about level of coverage imposed by the UCI or teams or something too.

correct me if i'm wrong, but xc courses are typically longer and hence have physically more course to cover.

b-b-b-b-but i thought redbull gives you wings!?!?

That would be sweet to wake up to with a bike race.

Any number of cameras is better than none. Especially for the price. I'd like 100 cameras too but I've also seen what's involved in streaming that mess. I thought they did a good job.

All you whiners quit watching. My stream will be better next time.

yeah, but if no one is watching then it is just wasted resources.

for the record, I was supremely happy with the coverage. I logged in late so I missed the "issues" with the ladies racing (though I still don't understand what the "problem" was). But I still managed to catch the race from Needles on. It was awesome. Yeah, I would have liked to see the tables and the speeds they hit going in to them, but that'll be featured in the web edits I'm sure, so I'm not complaining about it.

My question is genuinely out of curiosity: do more people watch xc racing than dh?

On freecaster, no, DH reigns supreme...followed by XC, then that other event that is no longer on the world cup.
Am I assuming correctly that since RB has also taken over actual video production from the UCI that the feed we see is also what is broadcast on TV. For which I'm guessing XC may pull more viewers?

For the camera counters, DH v XC, there is a time constraint when filming DH since the guys go at 2-3 minutes gaps. If you want to show the race live you have to either limit the # of cameras, skip some riders, or lengthen the interval. No such problems exist in XC.

The coverage for the first event this year was so much better than it has been in the past I don't know how anyone can complain. Sure there's nice to have features and coverage, but meh - the quality, scope and variety of coverage was better than we've seen in the past so I'm stoked. All hail our new Red Bull overlords!

You understand wrong. Smaragd is still producing. Redbull only owns rights to that feed.

Red Bull press release suggests otherwise?

Under this new partnership, RBMH will provide media services including HD TV production, webcasting and content syndication.

Live streaming of all the World Cup Cross-country Olympic, Cross-country Eliminator and Downhill races will be featured on www.redbull.com/bike and www.redbull.tv. The UCI and RBMH will collaborate closely to ensure that coverage of these events will be more dynamic, innovative and viewer-friendly, providing fans with unforgettable images of racing action.

RBMH will produce the official international live signal as well as highlight programmes that the UCI will provide to TV channels on all continents. Overall TV production will be improved with High Definition images and an increased number of cameras at events.

All I know is my internet connection comes in via carrier pigeon and watching freecaster was virtually hopeless. I dont know how many races the feed would drop out and skip, only to return with warner shouting "Did you see that!".
Redbull tv - via Vital - was flawless. I liked watching the full top 80, but I can live without.

my feed through redbull TV kept flicking to a preview of one of their shows, was about some old flying heap of **** that was restored...only seemed to do during the last 20 riders. I cried a lil'

Mine did the same (although it must have been a different show, about a gorgeous P-38 Lightning instead of a flying heap of **** ;) ). Luckily it was very quick to fix by closing and reopening the feed.
It did this pretty constantly, not only during the top 20, but I was lucky it didn't do that during the most interesting riders.

edit: I was also using the Redbull TV app on iPad

Exactly same thing here when I initially tried to watch on the iPad. After a while I switched to iPhone and had no issues.

Another really good one from TriRide. I'll tell you what's a fail though, it's a fail that UCI doesn't let these guys film during finals. We get 6 minutes of gorgeous footie from practice and then about 10 seconds of guys crossing the finish line. If they don't want the race to be important, maybe all of these guys should just stay in Whistler and get filmed all summer.
