Why the F was he doing that inside, anyway?? I mean, he hacked at it as opposed to running the knife blade along the bottle, but even if he'd been successful there would've been quite a mess to clean up...
if done properly, sabering a bottle of wine should not produce a large mess. only a little bit of wine/champagne should come out. hes also a dumbass for using the sharp edge of the knife

Its also partly a result of the bottle design itself. Notice that the break actually happens at the bottom of the bottle. He is trying this with cheap bubbly and it shows

I sabered our New Year bottle off the back deck, and it was surprisingly easy (thanks Zane Lamprey!!), although I still wouldn't want to clean champagne off the floor by doing it indoors...

Totally agree on the sharp side of the knife as well, noticed that after watching it ~15 times. Got funnier each time.

edit: DirtyMike - I'm pretty sure it was caused by the downward hacking motion of the knife, as any champagne bottle has to be pretty beefy. We did it with a $6 bottle of Crystalino.

lol, zane taught me how to do it too.
i agree, cleaning up wine or champagne can be a bitch but it shouldnt make too big of a mess unless youre that guy. id try and do it over a sink if possible
