no, you are.....

I've been riding mt bikes for over 30 years of various makes and types some my own, some demos, some borrowed. I know what fits my riding. Same goes for 45 years on road bikes.
You do realize that things have changed allot in 30 years right???? Any sort of opinions and knowledge based in the land of canty's is a bit dated by now.

You got "bang for your buck" because the frame is super cheep, not because you got more than you payed for.

Just to be a little rude.

This thread is worthless without his wife getting a new Sybian and sending out christmas photos elating its arrival.

Fo Rizzle. Were not talking about Tinker and Dawn Cashen here. Get new bikes, have fun. Repeat as necessary. :thumb:

I'm not trying to be rude, but the bike you replaced wasn't exactly the pinnacle of design.

That was a good bike. If it wasn't for the unreliability of the pull shock, it would have been great. I had mine last rebuilt at the 2003 NCS Snowshoe and the tech told me they just don't have parts for that shock anymore... i.e. when this blows again, you're SOL. It was blowing about once a season, so I decided to sell it and switch to something else.

Ask about his recent upgrade from his old campy deltas to some modern tectros! Now he can actually stop, therefore great brakes right????

Just because it's better than the super old crap doesn't make it worth a damn now.

I dunno much about Sette, but they can't be too terrible can they?

I have eyed a few of them in the pricepoint mailers I get....more so as a road bike since it would be used simply to get some miles in, but I guess I don't know what the cool kids think.

Have fun riding.

I had a customer who bought one of these bikes and had us build it up. It rode pretty well. The seat was awful. He swapped it out after 1 ride.

Definitely a discrimanator...never buy Sette because the seats, they are horrible. Will definitely give you bad breath and piles, and have been known to spontaneoulsy combust. Alledgedly. I dont even know.

As EaterofDog pointed out, they area ll made in teh same factory, unless Mom and Dad front up enough $$$ for Jr to buy a custom frame, whether he can rip it or not, from some over priced welder who happens to dig making money off of rich kids.

It's a non-FSR 4-bar bike, not the pinnacle of technology but a respectable design, especially compared with a halfway decent rear suspension... Rip it and have fun, and try to pass some of the haters on the way up *and* on the way down.

I'm sure it'll be great- if anything you're getting a good deal on the build kit alone... Full seat tube, proven (a million times) low single pivot, sounds good to me!

You know what? Looks pretty damn close to that transition bandit that everyone is sweatin' their nuts over!

thanks guys, I never worry about the opinions from the interwebs....

Lets just hope that when all you young guns grow past the latest and greatest my balls are bigger phase. When you reach your mid 50s like we have, you still are able to enjoy ripping around the trails like we are enjoying it.....

As a rider in his late 40's I take the middle ground. When I had to sell my bikes because I was sick and needed money, the one I kept was a 2004 Titus Switchblade with tubeless tires SRAM s-9 and disc brakes. I appreciate technology but don't worship it, a "better" bike is worse than useless if it makes your ride less fun. On the other hand if A carbon yeti 575 appeared with a not saying it was a birthday present, I wouldn't kick it out of bed.:D ;)

The bike you picked looks almost like a Motolite without the Horst link or half a dozen other really fine riding bikes, I'm sure your wife will love it.:thumb:

Hmm. This bike is probably at least as good, probably better, than a high-end FS of 10-15 years ago. Were we having less fun on the trail 10-15 years ago?

Just because there's something technically/technologically more advanced now doesn't mean a bike's worthless. If you're a racer, the value is sure there to help you remain competitive and win races (to the extent that the bike matters, compared to rider skill), but if you're going out to have non-competitive fun with your family and friends, I don't think you're going to have less because you're riding a bike that some illiterate bikeshop snot thinks is crappy.

I doubt, based on the style of bike he chose, Eric and his wife are trying to blow down the latest supertech freeride trail, throwing heel-clickers along the way. So I sincerely think his wife will be more than fine on her new bike, and am happy to hear someone's more concerned about getting on the trail and riding than about showing off their ride's awesomeness.

Edit: Wow, I was thinking about a road bike, myself--those Sette completes look like smoking deals. As long as I can find one that seems like it'll fit, I might have to give it a shot! Kinda wanted something single-speedable, but I guess I could live with a singulator if push came to shove.
