Ok slightly odd one this.
I've been looking for new pair of shoes/trainers to ride for my BMX. So far I've been using an old pair of Nike ACG trainers but they gave up the ghost recently and I used some crappy trainers I had lying around - ouch my feet hurt!
I've never done the Vans/Nike 6.0 thing - the bloody tongues are far too padded for my high instep.
Does anyone know of a decent pair of shoes with a thin tongue!

There have been some fox shoes on chainlove lately that I bought. After dirtjumping in them a few times, I bought another pair. I'm digging them and if they come up on chainlove in your size, they're cheap.

edit: just checked the box......Fox ambush. That's what they're called. Stiffer sole than most vans.

ive got super high arches and never had problems with 6.0 tongues being too padded. right now im wearing a pair of dc versatiles, coincidentally the tongue isnt all that thick on them either. pretty nice, soft enough to be comfy and the sole is stiff enough not to hurt after lots of riding

I look for grippy soles and a bit of heel padding. Mid height for ankle protection too.
Nike Air Mogan Mid is what I've been using for a while, pretty happy with them. Not so great on the heel padding, but exceptional in other areas.
I do notice they are a bit tight on the tops of my feet though, if I cinch them down, they can be a little uncomfortable.

I just got the Teva Links a month or 2 ago and I'm loving them.
I got the Teva Pinner (exactly the same shoe as the Links, just not as ridiculous looking).

Links

Pinner

The shoe has unbelievable grip, a stiff base, and a thick springy tongue. They do not, however, have very high support around the ankle (if that's what you're into). If you took a big fall, it would be pretty easy for these to fall off. I have tried a LOT of different shoes, and these are definitely my favorite. They have similar grip to the 5.10s (mostly due to the really well thought-out tread design). But unlike the 5.10s, they will not mark up your floors if you want to wear them inside.

A word to the wise, NEVER buy any shoes made by SixSixOne, they were the worst shoes I have ever bought. The soles were so crappy that they internally collapsed after a few weeks and my foot was resting on a waffle iron.

Picked up a pair of Etnies Number Mids (Aaron Ross sig) a few months back and like them. Good ankle protection and velcro strap to keep the laces out of your cranks. Nicest part is a high density rubber plate built into the middle of the sole to keep your pedals from eating through the shoes.

The Pinners aren't completely water proof like the Links, nor do they have the same outer rubberized sections. Soles are the same though, so if you aren't going to abuse them the pinners are good. My roommate got the purple and black links and they are a little bit more low key than the Lunar ones.

im a 13 also and the links fit me great. a bit tight in the toes but for this type of shoe i prefer it being snug.

i think the best part of the shoe is that it almost sucks for walking. the ball of the sole is nice and firm, while the heel is soo cushy that rolling your foot in a stride seems to lack support. its like walking on a cloud, but then stiff when youre on your bike. gotta bail? wont feel it
