wow...@ kidwoo...cool response. i think it's pretty rad. it'd be something cool for searching for trails and also having a decently light bike. Doesn't look like the engine is that big, still uses normal mtn bike components. I think it'd be a cool thing to have.

Ya, it'd have all the reliability issues of a DH bike, super flexy, super expensive, and zero power. It'd be a dream. Just get a 125 2 stroke or something.

Also, wouldn't any motor above 3-4hp would shred any mtb rear hub in no time flat? I mean typical peak pedaling outputs are ~1hp right? And most rear hubs explode after any prolonged exposure to that power.

what i get out of this is sombody took an old demo frame and did a heck of an overhaul on it and created their own unique toy cause they wanted to. props to that person for being creative. it doesnt look a bit practical but it does look cool.

Just "leak" a photo of Sam Hill mounting that bad boy, and it'll suddenly be the bees knees!

I don't remember the name but there was a group that made something similar a few years ago. Super compact lightweight moto with a bunch of dh components on it for weight. It looked a lot more solid. But a trials bike would achieve the same thing (and probably better to actually have out in the woods).

As said......it looks like somebody's fun little project though.

dirt bike weighs 100kg. Not really bad when one considers high power output for the weight.

Are there some that weighs sub 50kg incl engine? It would be interesting to see some hybrids between dh and moto.

Maybe electrical motor makes the posibility? though weight of battery is problem, of course also its the price.

The future looks interesting, there are lots of mountains without access of lift. I remember the discussion of the electric DH frame from Poland ;)

I don't know but the NA market isn't getting either version for 2012. I bet we don't get them in 2013 either. I'd get one of those 350 Freerides so fast. They would be the perfect trail moto.

WANT that FX bike :D Sub 60kg, not bad.

KTM Freeride 350 doesnt excite me since it weighs still 100kg. Not nimble enough as shown in the vid.

That's pretty close. I was just recently a part of a human physiology study at my university that measured peak power output and how long it can be sustained while on a bike. I haven't gotten to see my results yet, but they showed me the results of a friend who is about 5'10" tall and about 165 lbs - an ex lacrosse player. He peaked around 1200 watts (if I remember correctly), which is about 1.6 HP.

I can only imagine what a super strong rider could lay down in terms of power. Let's also not forget that torque is a major player here too, as that is what will cause the stress on the hub (Power = Torque x Angular Velocity).

I think I know what you are talking about. I remember specifically there being a Monster T (or maybe it was a Super Monster) on it. I want to see a picture of it again!

Dudes-
Seriously?
Um.... that's a concept bike from the tradeshows last year. Pretty sure it popped up in more than one thread too...
Not only is it incredibly obvious that it isn't a functional product a google image search of "specialized mx bike" brings it up on the first page.

Oh it's functional, just not practical or very much fun to "ride". :D

But it has fulfilled the design intent of garnering attention quite well!
