Why no reporting on Shawn Orrechio and the demise of Diablo?

I know we're in a relatively small and tight knit industry....so why hasn't anybody reported on the attempted fraud by Orrechio on Mountain Creek? I mean slander is one thing, and I don't know the details so I'm not going there, but it's pretty clear that Diablo/Orrechio does not have permission to take the season's pass $$$, nor to issue seasons passes. I'm not sure what the resolution was regarding offering seasons passes to people who purchased them, but why isn't this on Pinkbike, RM frontpage, or MTBR, or anything else? It seems like a quick article on PB would get the message to most of the "passholders", and it would leave a pretty clear image of what transpired with Diablo's leaving. Instead, we get little blurbs, mostly through facebook, or a nicely worded article on Pinkbike that sugar coats the whole topic. Seems kind of like a big deal, and I'm just curious.

It would take real investigative journalisim to get and frame the full story, and it doesn't seem like these sites are working in that line of work. It's mostly quick blips and regurgitated press releases. All the places you mention are supported through advertising. Advertisers don't like controversy.

qft.

wiki seems to be going int he right direction
As the park reduced its commitment to customer service and maintenance, Orecchio continued to alienate his business partners and customers which ultimately resulted in the dissolution of Diablo Freeride Park. Many attempts at Slandering the owners were tried, but when Terralogic industries left with greater than $80,000 in prepurchased season pass assets, the public became aware that the rumors were true.

It's probably not a big deal to 99% of the cycling industry. Other than those who purchased passes and couldn't/didn't dispute the charges with their CC company, and Diablo riders who had negative experiences with Shawn over the year I can't imagine there is a ton of interest.

Personally I much prefer that mainstream DH outlets focus on what they are good at instead of what is essentially similar to another Iron Horse, Race Face, Lahar type story that requires a completely different form of journalism to report properly.

yeah, I guess that seems about right.

It just seems like this is an actual topic affecting riders, and not an article about how to adjust the seatpost clamp on the newest dropper seatpost, or another article on a bike that's years from being released.

I'm not trying to drama whore, honest, I just don't seem to understand why none of the news outlets made any mention of anything related, and if I were a casual rider that actually had a job and didn't surf the net for the better part of the day, I wouldn't want to show up to Mtn Creek in a month and find out that I don't have a pass and I don't have any recourse against Diablo.

As long as you have proof of purchase from said Diablo pass, Mountain Creek has you covered. Taking one for the team on this one.

looks like he was quick onto that 1, the quote is missing
Without references, you can't edit/add info to wikipedia. Whoever was editing that didn't actually list any source of information.

It's great that mountain creek will support those riders. Can't you get the money from Diablo somehow though?

I do not have any. 1st hand experiiience be I have a friend who worked for Diablo and now works for montkain creek. According to him there are more reasons for what happened than could easily be covered in one press release but now. That trails are back and going everything is being run much better

yea, explaining how your floating desert barge got wrecked by a single jedi, a pair of androgynous robots, and a giant monkey man would definitely take more than a single press release.

Mountain Creek should sell toilet paper with his face on it. It would sell like hotcakes and make up for some of the money they are having to front because he ripped so many people off.

So what is the "end story" on Clayton's bike shop mysteriously burning to the ground after his divorce from Diablo......?

Realize I'm out of the loop, so maybe this has been resolved by Police or the insurance company....just wondering is all.....

Huh..?......you're kidding right......?......

I tried some weak attempts to google the original newspaper story. But i don't know the exact name of the shop, where the shop is in NJ, or the newspapers in that area.....

Shop was burnt to the ground.
Burnt to ashes in a flash overnight.

Happened around 2005.

Soon after Shawn and Clay split as partners of Diablow.
Clay left Diablow and opended a bike and board shop.
Shop was burnt to ashes one winter night.

I never heard the official resolution (if there was one).

My parents live nearby but only went once, I generally don't enjoy going to bike shops oddly enough...
I remember driving past the rubble, article says electrical fire Oct. 2nd '06 http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070310/NEWS/703100318/-1/rss01

awesomely awful speculation! I might be mistaken but aren't Clayton and Shaun brothers in law?
