thinking of getting one...

how breathable / open is the mesh fabric? i get hot wearing anything more than a tube top.

the mesh fabric itself for the vest is fine. the VPD armor plate is where it will get warm. I've got the first gen vest, and it was fine on all but the hottest days (upper 80s - 90+), but generally only when sitting on the lift was it noticeable. the ver 2 stuff is supposed to be better vented.

yeah I know the VPD sections will get hot, but i'm hoping the rest of the ventilation will somewhat compensate.

I ordered one, tried it on for about 2 minutes and sent it back. The seams in the armpits were immediately uncomfortable and will be irritating quick. It was also much bulkier than I expected. Totally disappointed. I was waiting for this to come out ever since I first saw it.

Thx bullit for the info. I'm 6'3", 195 lbs with a small waist--how would u describe the fit in shoulders, arms, waist? If I wore a thin undershirt, those seams would probably not be an issue.

I just got one of those, but haven't used it yet. So, I can't really comment on how hot it gets while riding yet, but it looks pretty open. Of all of the upper body armor I've used or tried on, it's the lowest profile per amount of protection. I cut some of the VPD pads to accommodate a Leatt brace- it would have been nice if they would have made it easier.

As far as fit, I'm 5' 11", 175 lbs, and the medium fits great.

Wearing an under shirt would make it not rub in the pits but would be pretty hot in the summer. It fit fine in the shoulders, arm and waist. It is lower profile than hard shell suits. I would have kept it if not fot the seams in the pits.

I wear a under shirt with every protective jacket I have had. Tender nipples

yeah i've pretty much always had to wear a thin undershirt w/ armor.

i may have the LBS order in the jacket & then i'll decide.

will also look around to see what other brands of low profile armor are out for 2012. suggestions welcomed.

that TLD 7855 shirt doesn't have a zipper, as i recall. ? shoulder injuries make it hard for me to imagine getting that thing on/off.

I put a zipper in mine, at the tailor down the street from my house, she charged me 12 bucks. I hope to get that in production at some point...despite some testers that didnt like the zipper (I like the zip)...but im old school.

based on the only pic on the TLD site, it's not clear where that zipper would be installed. do you have a pic of yours? based on what i see on the site, there are no tightening straps on the forearm area..therefore I'm guessing the forearm area is designed to be snug & stretchy, in which case getting it off when i've been sweating all day would be a PIA probably if there was no zipper.

the site didn't have any info that i could find about 'strata foam'; is it a VPD type that stiffens on impact?

thx.

I recall someone saying the POC VPD is Not Leatt compatible, can anyone shed some light on that? The Troy Lee UPS 7855-HW Long Sleeve Shirt is Leatt compatible. Does the Troy Lee one take the place of their Rincon armour (Hard Suit)? Any thoughts on wearing this in place of a "hard suit"?

Just got my TLD 7855. Very nice. The pull over is actually easier to get off than other mfg's front zip jackets. I like the Leatt compatibility. Update coming after Massanutten.

UPDATE: Rode with the above TLD 7855 and love it; not bulky, easy to wear a jersey over, Leatt friendly-in fact so comfortable I forgot I was wearing the Leatt (just removed the upper pads around the collar). I actually felt a breeze through this, defiantly not a hot a hard shell. I felt the pads would offer moderate protection in a spill. Can't wait to ride with it this weekend!

A picture of the zipper install would be awesome! I've had my 7855 Long sleeve since last season, and really like the way it rides. The integrated elbow protectors are great and really stay in place. I have some issue with getting out of the top when it is sweaty...my fabric has started to tear from trying to get the damn thing off. With a zipper, it would be much improved. I've tried a 661 core saver, impact suit, and a demon hypervest, and the TLD is by far the least restrictive piece with the best coverage.

Fro, if you are into the vpd thing, I picked up a sas-tec replacement back pad for a moto jacket for like $30, and cut out pieces to fit the back and chest sections of the TLD suit. Great impact protection, and the ability to tweak to my liking. Pretty neat to be able to tinker with fit/material without any major modification.

I have a few days on the 7855 now. Wow, feels great, no restriction. I took the pads out for the Leatt. Works great without modifying the jersey.

I have found the zipper on other jackets to be not an advantage. When they are sweaty, it's hard to take off so I usually pull them over my head anyway.
