I'm wondering if anyone tried some of the top alternative roms, especially after switching from Sense 3.0 which may be more functional than the old one but seems to have a bit more problems and is a bit more annyoing than the old sense.

What do I loose by dropping sense?

You'll lose some of the widgets, but there are replacements for most of them.

You'll lose the dialer. The stock Android dialer doesn't have as many features - but again, there are replacement dialers you could use (I've heard Dialer One is good).

Frankly, you won't lose much that you can't readily replace with a third party equivalent out of the market.

MIUI is cool. I don't like the launcher but the way it approaches menus and customization is pretty awesome. CyanogenMod 9 is fast and stable and is what I'm using now.

What phone?

I have been a big fan of Cyanogenmod I had CM7 on my OG droid, I have yet to update my newest phone to CM9 (gnex) but I have installed cm9 to my tablet. Pretty awesome stuff. The ability to switch off 4g is crucial to battery life, but most my reasons for liking CM are relatively small, the switch from gingerbread/honeycomb to ICS was biggest factor for me. Along with ICS come a ton of new features, streamlines and it is just plain simple to use.

i've got CM9/ics on my touchpad. very nice. very, very nice. granted, i don't have much hands on time with a stock / non-rooted version of ICS to compare it to.

Is this functionality you didn't have before installing the ROM? Verizon phone?
It's baked into the stock phone ROM as well.

I agree, ICS turned my Touchpad from a device that was adequate but slightly painful (with either WebOS or Gingerbread) into a really enjoyable tablet. I've gotten some occasional random reboots but (knock on wood) updating CM9 from my old version seems to have corrected them, or at least made them less frequent.

i'm still on one of the earlier nightly builds. only issue i've noticed is the camera doesn't work. is that sorted in one of the newer nightlies?

I don't use the camera, so I have no idea. I was on an old release, prior to even the CM9 nightlies.
