Anyone know whether or not the US Open is happening, and if so, where?

We heard some suggest we could have it out here in Port Angeles, and I like the idea, but can't seem to find the status?

I think if you guys keep up with the trend of having a race the week after Sea Otter then you've got the US Open thing on lockdown with as much participation as that gets.

here's the info on this years big event at the same venue - Mountain Creek Bike Park.

FYI the race at Whiteface has nothing to do with the US Open or the venue it was previously held at.

Mountain Creek Spring Classic POC ESC/Pro GRT info is up !

Vernon, NJ – April 23, 2012 – Online registration is now open for the inaugural event at the new Mountain Creek Bike Park. At the Mountain Creek Spring Classic the best local, national and international riders will compete for points in the USA Cycling Pro GRT Series as well as the Eastern States Cup Series. The race will also mark the first ever USAC New Jersey State DH Championships. Riders will test their skills on the same terrain that played host to the world renowned US Open of Mountain Biking, as they compete more than $7,500 in cash and prizes.

“I’m thrilled that The POC Eastern States Cup is part of the first event at Mountain Creek Bike Park. Having a series race at Mountain Creek continues the POC ESC tradition of offering races at the best bike parks in the east. The Spring Classic is sure to be a highlight of the racing season for years to come.” Says George Ulmer, from the POC Eastern States Cup Series.

The Mountain Creek Spring Classic USA Cycling Pro GRT / POC Eastern States Cup Series is a USA Cycling sanctioned Pro GRT event held in conjunction with the POC Eastern States Cup series. Winners will earn points in both the USA Cycling Pro GRT series and the POC Eastern States Cup Series, with double Eastern States Cup Series points up for grabs as well as the USA Cycling NJ State DH Championship. In addition, female riders will get the opportunity to earn points towards the POC Eastern States Cup “Loeka Women’s Challenge”. This season long competition will pay $1,000 to the top 4 women in points regardless of class at the completion of the Eastern States Cup Series 2012 season.

This Mountain Creek Spring Classic will give local and regional pro riders a unique opportunity to compete against some of the best national and international riders in the world, such as, 2011 UCI World Cup Champion, Aaron Gwin as well as USA Cycling 2011 National Champion Logan Bignelli and their teams. Men’s and women’s pro racers will be competing for a share of the $5,000 total cash prize purse.

“We’re so excited to see world-class professional racing continue at Mountain Creek. We can’t wait to see the racers take to the new course this May” say Marc Tremain, Mountain Creek Bike Park Operations Manager.

In addition to all the great racing action, Mountain Creek Bike Park is raising the bar with a historic pre-race concert on Saturday night. Making their first hometown appearance in over 20 years, Punk Rock Legends The Misfits will rock the stage at the Red Tail Lodge with opening acts by Burning Sun and Heart of the Matter. Tickets for this all-ages show will be $20 available online or at the door starting at 6PM on May 19th.

where is SLALOM?????????!!!!! slalom slalom slalomon slalom
The US/Canadian Open at Whiteface on September 8/9, 2012 will have a Downhill, Open Chainless and a Dual Slalom race.
The $10,000.00 cash purse will go to both the pros and the amateurs. Amateurs will have $5,000.00 to split up between all am categories!
This inaugural event really has a chance to grow into something huge. Next year you can look forward to UCI Points and maybe even more cash.
FYI.The US Open is a registered trademark for the golfing event only. Diablo applied for a copyright back in 2006 (or so) but never finalized it.

Online registration opens on June 1, 2012.

H'bout "USO pen"?

Pretty sure that's legal.
We don't really like that name as it sounds like it's just for US riders. We are very close to the border (45 minutes) and the Canadians seem to like the hard core natural terrain we have to offer at Whiteface.
"The US/Canadian Open at Whiteface" is very official and permitted by USA Cycling.
Registration opens on June 1st, and has a field limit of 500 racers.

Maybe next year we can move up the date to our opening weekend if that works better?
We plan on having UCI points and even more cash and prizes at the 2013 US/Canadian Open at Whiteface.
