Hi monkeys. I just bought a new Transition frame, which has a BB width of 73mm. I wanted to pull my mint SLX crank off my Santa Cruz Chameleon, which has a 68mm width. I guess the Cham is also an eccentric BB. Did I just screw myself here? Thanks

Ah, might be helpful to say I have a Shimano SLX on there, which appears to have a 68/73 spec, correct? Thanks!

You should not have any problems using your BB on the new frame. External BBs work on both sizes just fine. The only thing you will have to change is the spacers. Since you are going to a wider BB, you will have to take out spacers, but the exact configuration depends on what kind of front derailleur you have and if you have a chainguide. Look here for a quick answer to spacer configuration: http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/external-bearing-crank-systems-hollowtech-ii-megaexo-giga-x-pipe-x-type-campagnolo-ultra-torque

Nope, not screwed at all. The bearings thread into the eccentric BB shell, so you'll just take 'em out and put them into the Transition. You may or may not need the spacers. My bike has a 73mm shell, and I run one spacer behind the left cup.

Great news! Thanks for the help. Yeah, there won't be a front drlr because I'm running a 1X9 on my bike (same with my Chameleon). Great to know I don't have to be anything more!
