I don't want to get burned for 3k+ buckazoonies with a fake cashiers check or personal check. What's the word on receiving payment from someone on the other coast?

After I receive this payment, I'm going to pack it and ship via UPS or Fedex.

Paypal? Wire transfer? Cash from a Colombian courier? An ounce or so of pure Adrenochrome?

I'll need to look deeper into the Paypal solution, that is the buyers preferred method. I'm just wary because of stories of people canceling the payment.

paypal. and make sure you get an extra 2.9% to cover their fees. if the buyer has a problem with the fee, offer to split the fee with him

Wait til the funds are safely in your bank account AFTER you transfer them from your PP account. Then take the funds out of the bank in cash and just sit on them for a bit.

Great tips, Paypal is looking like my best bet right now.

edit: The seller should have a verified shipping address, yeah?

Read the paypal rules. Don't be asking a bunch of tards on a forum. For example, you must get a delivery signature for any item over 250, or you can get screwed.

Even if you have that, they can say that it contained the wrong item, was empty, etc. The buyer will win nearly any PayPal dispute.

If you want any sort of guarantee, sell it locally for cash.

Do not send it as a gift. Paypal will not cover you if you do. Paypal is the only way I do my transactions. I've shipped everything from bicycles to an ATC70. Paypal is the only way to go. Ship the bike Fedex or UPS. You get a tracking # and you can make it signature required. I once shipped some jerseys to a University post office box via USPS with signature upon delivery. The buyer tried to say that he didn't receive the items and I was able to go to the USPS web site and pull up when it had been delivered and who signed for it. No dispute was filed by the buyer.

I haven't had trouble with paypal, that is to say I haven't had trouble with my buyers either. I think you're fine with paypal, but the signature idea is a good one. I'm going to start doing that.

The other thing that I do is talk to them on the phone. You can tell quite a bit just from talking to someone. Super nitpicky pain in the ass or has no clue what they're buying? I sell elsewhere. Relaxed, knowledgeable and has reasearched what they're buying is what I look for. If your parts are priced right, you can be a bit picky and not sell to a sketchy idiot.

No buying for their bro or cousin or any of that BS either, but that's just me.

Paypal. That nightmare where FedEx just made my shipment disappear and the buyer go freaking nuts and defame me on the net were well worth PayPal staffers telling him to suck it up and wait for FedEx to reimburse him. No ding in my rep.

Thanks for the tips! The buyer has agreed and the transaction is going to go down like this:

1) Buyer sends me funds via Paypal for the bike + shipping + paypal fees.
2) I'm going to do a Transfer to Bank Account and wait the 3-4 days the money to clear.
3) I'll withdraw the cash and hide it from the wife.
4) Ship the bike via UPS, insured and adult signature required.

waiting for it to hit your bank account doesnt mean much really. once its in your paypal account, its as good as yours unless a claim is later filed.

adult signature required.
I would go with signature required. The "adult" part is for anyone over 21 and is usually more costly. Also, it helps get the package delivered the first time to reduce extra handling. Believe me, bikes take a beating in any shipping system, and getting it delivered on the first attempt is much better.

doesn't paypal make you wait 21 days now for the money to become available or is that only for ebay sales?
thats only on large dollar sales via ebay for people who dont sell consistently on the site. you also dont have to wait that long if you have proof its been delivered and get pos rep from the buyer.

Withdrawing the money from the bank won't help. If Paypal decides to file a chargeback, they're just going to debit your account for the money. They don't care if it's in there or not. May as well leave it there so you don't incur fees if something goes haywire and PP takes the money back.

I've a 3 month old baby girl now and I won't be spending any race weekends in the dirt for awhile. All is well, the wife saw me wipe the tears as I packed it up and she said I could build another one in a year or so.
