Does anyone know what type of spider this is??? It's body was about an inch long. It's the second one I've killed in the past few weeks.

Brown Recluse... yikes.
Its a wolf spider, as threatening and dangerous as a bee. They are beneficial spiders as they provide free pest control (this means your house is prime hunting ground for insects). If you are afraid of them just put them outside.

Ways that people benefit from these animals: controls pest population.

Wolf spiders can give you a painful bite if you handle them carelessly, but it the bite usually doesn't do much damage unless the person bitten is allergic to the venom.

Polish folks call them trap spiders and since they kill house fly's you leave them be. Unless you find one in a bedroom. It's basically a wolf spider. Put it your Garage or screened in porch and it will thrive. Spider plants are named after them. They love gardens and will eat the worms that eff up your peppers and beans....

That's news to me. Though I agree. Leave it be. Spiders are the best insects one can have in your house.

Been going here since about 2000? Used to go every other week when I was working at the armory, now it's about once a month. I haven't had long hair since '91 (pre-boot camp).

<edit> It's a little out of the way where I live now (used to be a mile away) but every time I've let someone else touch my head, it turns out bad. So I make the drive.
