homey gets his own recovery thread.

4 days ago:
"It's been three days that Cedric is hospitalized in Trento, for now the news aren’t good because he is losing blood in the fractures, so he isn’t in condition to be transferred somewhere. Cedric is very touched by your post whether sponsors or fans, without forget his family and friends."

today:
"New hospital for me ! And for a longtime i guess ! I am back in france Toulouse and now waiting next week to say when they are going to surgery ! The surgery is really complex and we take 2 teams between 5 to 7 hours !
I am not so happy right now as you can see !"

damn. sounds like some steve austin sh|t.

I am really going to miss CG at the races, he brings so much style, steez and whatnot to racing it wont be the same without him.

Perhaps all is not lost, as a semi-opiuminated Ced would add a lot of great commentary to the race broadcast (maybe Skype from hospital?)

For reals tho, I think we all hope his surgery goes as well as possible and stays involved in pedal bike racing in the future.

Yeah healing thoughts out to Ced for sure. Major bummer, he was on his best form in years and having a blast. I've been a fan for a long time. Say what you want about his results but he keeps the fun in racing.

I really looked forward to the WC season but with Cedric out it takes a lot off of it for me. Not because he's a podium contender but I always get excited before his runs about what trick he'll do where and of course he's still a tpo 20 if not top 10 contender. It's a shame that he's out with the new commitmend he showed and he just has the best facebook-coverage which gives great insigt in his wc season.

It's a shame that he's out for sure. But more importantly, I hope this injury does not have long-term ramifications for him, on or off the bike.

Reviens-nous vite Cédric, et prompt rétablissement.

I don't think he will be back racing full time at WC level again.
Hope I'm wrong, but I doubt he'll bounce back from this.

Such a shame.

All the best Cedric, one of very few riders who makes everything look easy, Rampage, World Cups, dirt jumping, he even made 29ers look cool.

Whether he makes it back to the WC circuit or not I hope he stays in mountain biking. We need more personalities and CG has always been exactly that.

WTF! Cedric is super sick and will be back at world cup as soon as he is healed, This is a rider that flatted at the top of garbanzo one year in his race run and manualled practically the whole course... He was not too far off the winning time. Sit around and type all you want, Cedric rides more in one run than you do all year! Auggghhh, I don't know why I even read these threads...All the typers rule these forums while the riders are out killing it. DO NOT DOUBT CG!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVER! (except when he is trolling the fatties at the end of the night)

were not doubting that he's a baddass rider, just a hipfracture can leave you in pain for the rest of your life. Potentially not riding. I think WC racing is a pretty remote possibility, although I'd be excited to see it.

Cedric is one of those very special guys that stands out from the other riders - he's got style, a great sense of humor, he's a bit of a non-comformist, and when he's on it, he rips. It's riders like him, Peaty, and Palmer that give the WC a bit of character.

I remember when CG won the Rampage back in 03' he was one of the few riders throwing backflips during final run:

At this point, I don't know what the specifics are of his prognosis, but healing vibes are being sent his way.

..."fractured pelvis in 4 places... fractured the head of his femur..."

I have NO idea what the crash looked like, but if you want to see a bit of the aftermath, skip to the 1:20 mark...

Jesus... :(

I mean, I hate to say it, but is that a career ending/changing type of injury?
Almost certainly, regardless of his pedigree. He's an exceptional athlete, but his recovery will be measured in years, not weeks or months.

Yup. Breaking the head of the femur is probably similar to having his hip replaced. It'd be pretty amazing if he made it back up to the same level.

Sure hope he can pull it off though!

I really hate to have to say this, but depending on the severity of the break, and based on the location of the breaks, this does unfortunately have the potential (emphasis on potential) to be career ending. I REALLY hope this isn't the case, but only time will tell. Hopefully the surgery will go off without a hitch. Godspeed, CG.

I don't think I've ever seen CG without a smile and a joke, so the picture above is saddening. Our sport is awesome because of personalities like CG. He lifts everyone's spirits a notch, I guess it's time we repay him the favor. Not that he's reading this, but lets not focus on the negative, eh? Modern medicine is amazing. He can come back! CG - you're awesome whether you're on your bike or in a hospital bed!

Yep. Ive been recklessly beating the crap out of myself over the past year, and Im only a slightly speedy hack, no CG; I worry a bit about how the damage is going to feel in my later years, but for the most part - things still work right now, just with some clicks and pops.

Someone with the right mindset and access to the right care can certainly come back from something like this. Its the mental side thats hard, and CG is definitely a head case.

I have high hopes, but most important of them is I hope he feels and gets better ASAP even if he comes back as an Exec, just stick around!!

...you'd be surprised what riders, companies and support staff lurk here...

Really - you would.

:D

CG - rest easy and heal up soon!

yeah, and the power of positive thinking is... well... uhhh... "powerful"?!!

I'm sure he'll put into his recovery what he puts into his riding which is to say style, enthusiasm and lots of hard work.

Really sucks. Especially after just recovering from the ACL.

One day at a time!

I'm sure his body will make all kinds of fun noises once he's up and about again.

Snap, crackle, pop... (in French of course, or with a heavy accent...)

I am expecting a full carbon and ti leg/hip replacement, complete with VPP suspension at the joint and an air valve and grease port sticking out of his butt cheek.

Like the OP suggested: Better, stronger, faster!

That anyone over 30 is washed up? :P

I asked my buddy who is an orthopedic surgeon about these kinds of breaks. Evidently, if the break isn't THAT bad, might not be career ender, but strongly possible it is.

for an elite athlete, mid-thirties is old.
