I had a damn good time at beech jacked my elbow up and had the wind knocked out of me but I had a great time. I have no idea why we have so many lurkers and no posters? Tell me about your weekend.
I thought the situation with the lift sucked.

What situation with the lift? The fact that they wouldn't run it all day Saturday for downhillers to practice, or the fact that they wanted to shut down the lifts like a couple hours before the Cat 1's and pros would have to go down?

I'm Cat 3 so, I got to go down the mountain almost immediately. But I do know a lot of my friends weren't happy about having to go up so soon.

I had an awesome time. No crashes and left unscathed so successful weekend in my book. I felt like I had plenty of practice, my stumpjumper had been bottomed out enough times that I wasn't upset about stopping at noon.

Also, the track is one of the best I've ridden. Really matured over the last year.

Great track,
Great race,
Great weekend,
And what a huge turnout of gravity racers and fans. Sure, it would be nice for the lifts to run longer and there were some timing glitches, hopefuly that will get better. I am so excited to have this venue just two hours from home and I know lots of other people who want nothing to do with racing who are looking forward to having a lift serviced bike park here in the future. I hope the large turnout helps convince Beech Mountain that we will support them if they continue on this route. Thank you to everyone involved.
Oldcrow, how's that arm feeling? Windrock Sunday?

HAha, you have less than two weeks of peace left, then I'm dragging you right along with the rest of the crew! If you and Oldcrow will PM me your email addresses, I will put on my ride up coming ride list.

I had a total blast. I went to the race thinking I would just race slalom, since I'm still waiting on my DH bike. But Saturday morning about 30 minutes before the DH practice started I got offered a DH bike from herndon to ride so I made the switch and went for it! I have been off of DH bikes for 8.5 months and it was awesome to get back out there. By the end of the day, herndon sold that bike, so I had to switch to a different bike for Sunday to race on. It was a crazy weekend!

I had a bad ending with the injury, but the rest of the weekend was great.

I had an opportunity to ask management questions about the lift and did my best to not agitate them. It was great to hear their side and I fully understand where they are coming from.

I have a much better understanding of their situation. It's great to know they are still moving forward and very much open to listening to public feedback. Let's all be positive because I think this weekend showed what great things are ahead. :thumb:

I had awesome time, I hadn't been to Beech before so I didn't know what to expect, I've been off the DH bike for 4 years or so until this year and I hit up Massanutten, Snowshoe and now Beech. I had a great time and really enjoyed the track, I'll be back next month. The track offered a ton of diversity. Like everyone else the lifts running longer would've been nice, but I was able to get some good runs in. My race run was pitiful, wrecked once and just ran off the track again, but all my good times on the hill the rest of the weekend more then made up for it and I'm healthy too. Stoked!

If I bought a USAC license on Saturday, will I just receive my license in the mail and my points be updated later?

302 Found I have a few vid clips here from the lower rock section and the bottom of the DS, they aren't high quality but I mainly shot them just to show some of the locals here what they are missing and hopefully get them down there next time.

see yall in a month.

Awesome weekend on all accounts. Wished the lifts were open a bit longer. Ran into Chris just before my race run on Sunday. He said that next time lifts will be open til 1 on Saturday and longer on Sunday. I'm not sure how much longer. Hopefully somebody who has more definitive info will be along to confirm.

waterdogs,

Thanks for snapping this photo of my son...

nice ladies taking pics at the finish,

Please post those pics of the young cat 2s over the table top. Both of you had great shots of my son. TIA!

I had a blast also. Saturday's first couple of runs were horrible and I really thought 'what the heck am I doing here?' Kept riding and getting faster and feeling better. Sunday everthing started to come back to me and got faster every run. My race run was almost perfect for me. I hit the rock at the top and launched over it. I really hope someone got a photo of it, I don't think anyone was there at the time though.

If anyone is looking to sell a bike I am looking to get a new one small oir medium sized.2-3 years old will do.

Butch- can you elaborate on the lift discussion? I was worried about getting the runs in probably like everyone else, but with the four tray lift it was just like every other weekend up there.

When will results get posted?

Bizutch good meeting you too man. I was able to meet a few other folks too, it was good stuff. I plan on staying a little longer around Nationals, bringing the trail bike and trying to ride some of the goods around there.

They have the dates for the Nationals as 18-22nd does anyone know a rough schedule yet?

The top 15 qulify in each age bracket of each cat. Age brackets are in increments of 5 years. 19-24, 25-29, ect and I think juniors are 2 year age splits. This doesn't really apply to who you were racing against at the mountain. Last year I crashed in slalom qualis and placed 16th in cat 1. But the usac results showed me as only being 8th place because the other 8 were in the next 5 year age bracket. This result only being counted for national qualification. Not usac points which will be your actual place at the race.
riders were in the next age bracket. Needless to say. Iv never been to a usac race where someone didn't qualify.

I had a great time as well! I loved seeing so many people there to support the series and showing how many great riders are in the South East. The dual slalom was really fun especially since we have not raced on it that dry before. I missed Will on the mic. I dont think the spectators knew what class was running and in what round they were in. Regardless, the action was still there!

My first true downhill race was a blast! I was having fun all while being scared to death in practice. I fell about 7 times during Saturday practice. No bueno. What really helped me on race day was following Ryan Taylor down my first run. Thanks Ryan! Put together a clean race run even though I felt like a ball of jello by the last wooded section. I now know what needs to be done before Nationals and I cant wait!

Thanks Beech Mountain and everyone else that made this race what it was.

Nope. Just wanted to compare notes w/ him on how his operation has to run compared to the venues I used to work with. All made sense and I was good with it. :thumb:

Butch hows the knee? I didn't end up racing because i was waiting on my lung to finish collapsing and filling with blood with my rib punching it way in to my lung, i would have needed to figure out how to put in a chest tube with a brake hose to inflate my lung...Tragedy averted walked it off and lived and that is key.

Had a great time at Beech, as usual. Best conditions I've seen so far. Really, REALLY glad they put on two days of lift service for the races this year, but i have to admit that I was a bit disappointed that they closed early on saturday. Other than that, it was a fantastical weekend.

Came across an interesting video on youtube... opinions? (read the youtube description)
