hmmm, the course changes all seem to favor Gwin's strengths: wide open PINNED. Unless it rains, he will win big. If it's sloppy, I could see Hill or Hart taking it.

what would have body armor have done in a crash like that?
Well it wouldn't do much for a lot the impacts with the ground, but sliding for many yards it would likely help a lot to avoid major abrasions. Didn't Gee have is arm stitched and bandaged at Val di Sol? I'm just remembering back to the days when I started doing DH when everyone had upper and lower armor. Those days are gone.

I still can't believe how few people are wearing any substantial body armor these days. The price for failure is so high.
I'm pretty sure these days most WC pros protection from crashing hard is to be f**king yoked. All body armor really does is prevent abrasions anyways.

That Parkin bros edit is epic. Kovarik intro with the old Illusionary lines intro tune. Unreal, good way to start my day.

haha, nice bow legged bar hump by gwin. possible emerging personality; think i'm starting to warm up to him.
that was how rock jesus burst on to the scene, not only did he get 10th at MSA on his first WC race ever (6months into DH bikes), everybody else was pooped by the end of the course and then gwin bust out a gigantic bowlegged bar hump on the last jump.

ahhh memories!

I guess you never had an abrasion that seriously hurt your movement and didnt heal for days. Not to mention many riders dont wear elbows and elbow pads do prevent serious injury. Hit the ground with it wrong and you are done for quite some time.

Also landing with your ribs on the rocks with or without chest protection makes a difference. It is a rare case so I understand why some people choose to wear less for race runs but for training you are bound to crash a few times when you test your limits.

There's more armor under some of those jerseys than you might think. It's just not of the ninja turtle suit variety that is so popular in Quebec.

Question- top 80 qualify right? does that mean the top 80 plus whatever riders were protected or do they bump the slowest of the 80 to fit in protected riders?

So, these qualifying results seems to suggest that American's really CAN compete at the WC level, however it is too expensive for them to go to all these European WC events. Unless this track is just way different from the other ones. I mean there are like 9 Americans who qualified. That's got to be a modern record. Thoughts?
