Chomolungma Challenge questions Snowshoe Mountain August 25th

I haven't been able to find very much info on this. I know it is changed to August 25th and I know it is 20 laps. How is a downhill run a lap? Do you go down and ride the lift up and that's 1 lap or or do you have to stay on your bike for the up part and actually ride your bike up and down the mountain 20 times? Are they going to keep times for each lap and use a combined total or is it the first one who finishes 20 "laps" wins. If anyone has any info on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks......

Michele,

The Chomolungma Challenge will consist of 20 laps (a lap being one DH run down the mountain and the lift ride back to the top). The winning racer / team will be the first in their class to complete their 20th lap. Individual laps will not be timed. Racers may choose any bike park trail on the WT to make their descent on each lap and can mix it up throughout the day. We will be releasing a more formal description of the rules and logistics shortly.

Cheers!

Hi Wildcat.
Several of us in Ontario are loving this, and planning on coming together for a road trip. A few questions, its a 10 hr drive for us, but we will gladly do it for such a cool race. Main question, as we will need to make travel plans/accom/etc - how is the area if it rains? Will this still go on? Although no one controls the weather - short of a major storm, will this event still run? Second, is there a website or something to the area for accomodations and stuff? I assume the resort will be too costly, as wel plan on getting there Wednesday night (trying to keep costs as low as possible, as 2000km roadtrip will be costly enough just in gas!!)
Thanks
Simon

whenever i visit snowshoe, i am surprised if it doesn't rain at least once during my visit. summertime weather typically is foggy early morning, followed by midday sun, and then scattered rain/thundershowers in the afternoon. they will probably run it rain or shine, but if there is thunder/lightning, lifts are closed due to safety. not sure if they will then run the shuttle if the lifts close. there are plenty of accomodations, check out snowshoemtn.com. also remember, at snowshoe, the accomodations/shops/eateries/lodges are at the TOP of the mtn. You ride to the bottom and take the lift back up.

Thanks for the info. I guess it will be the honor system as far as keeping people from cutting down the ski slopes to get to the bottom faster?

Hve you ever tried to ride down a ski slope there? Not as fun as it sounds. Waist deep grass with drainage ditches cut every couple hundred feet will keep you from going very fast at all. A couple of us tried it years ago just for kicks and it sucked.

Yeah i have actually, for sure it would suck to go the whole way down, but there are sections here and there where you can shortcut stuff.

So we are doing this for sure. I see in another thread that Timberline Resort is good some are saying. I think thats in WV, so I am assuming (no idea about WV geography) that it will probably be relatively close to Snowshoe? Several hours drive maybe?

So assuming its not too far, and open during the week - should our trip look like Thursday at Timberline Resort, Fri Snowshoe, Sat Snowshoe Race, Sun Snowshoe?

Or another plan? Coming from the north - any comments to help some Canadian boys figure out our trip?

Thanks
Simon
