Guess not may painters are willing to show their work upclose...

Sure you might spot minor faults but i try to work as tidy as possible and correct these faults by respraying or touching up. It's still hand work not press 'print' on a inkjet so you can apply stickers.

I just love painting and coming up with designs and turning them in reality; it's priceless when you hand over the helmet and you see them smiling big and have a look on their faces (some in disbelief) 'is that mine!?".

Very nice job Molphy ! Your designs are so cool and clean.
You painted only on D3 ? Everything is painted or there is some stickers ?

Here is my last paint job on my D3, and on a D2 for a friend.

Bonjour Alex Paul!

Is this you!

:D

MONSTER Energy preferred painter for Jared Graves and the likes...

AP Designs USA! http://www.apdesignsusa.com/index2.html

Those dollar bills are obviously non paint!
I have used chrome and gold foil, not worth sending out a helmet for a +350 chrome job, when partial chrome is needed.
Up till now all is 100% paint... D2, D3, THE One, THE T2, BMX frames, MTB frames, Sigg bottles, O Crowbar outriggers etc.

Some very impressive work there M@lphy.

Just a question out of curiosity - what product would be recommended for a gloss or matte clearcoat over raw carbon (no paint)? And also, what do people use to paint the rubbery plastic piping/edges of the helmet?

I am having our guys paint BMX olympic helmets, I will post pics next week before the lids head off to london.
Nic Long, Alise Post, Sam Willoughby, Khalen Young, Sifiso Nhalpo and Mariana Pajon.....super sick. I think a certain dutch guy is painting some D3's for a certain euro BMX olympic team, can't wait to see those as well!!

Gee thanks!

Over raw carbon... i assume with a gelcoat sans paint on top!?
(or did you sand it back to the bare carbon?)

I suggest two layers of 2 Pack clear, with inbetween sanding.
2 layers adds more depth to the carbo weave.

With a flat finish you still need a glossy 1st layer to put the flat clear on.
I suggest a soft-touch clear, since that is more mar resistant.

Helmet trimmings; rubber / semi plastic. Troublesome!
You'll need a softener agent to make the paint flexible since 'plastic' will keep on working & 'sweating'...
In the longterm it will let go, crack and flake off.

Perhaps a car wrapping foil!? A quality cast multi layer PVC foil.
