I spent all afternoon at Buffalo Creek and now I'm drinking:

Winning! I liked it so much I already called in "sick" so I can do it tomorrow. Eff mondays.

I was less than impressed by the Deviant Dale's. Sucks because I had high hopes for it, being such a huge Dale's fan. Not terrible, but not anything to write home about either.

I liked the Deviant Dale's quite a bit. More impressed than the regular Dale's. I'm such a slut for higher ABV beers though, I'm starting to question my own judgement.

That might be what I didn't like about it... but I'm not sure. I do know it was a bit "too much"... if that was alcohol or hops or something else.
:stupid:

I'm all for super hoppy and/or high ABV beers, but I think being used to the seemingly perfect balance Dale's had, the Deviant was a bit too much to enjoy. Not saying it was bad, but much like their Gubna, I can't put down 5-6 of them like I can with Dale's.

Drinking a Dale's now actually.

Interesting... I too thought the same thing about Gubna. I *tried* putting down 5-6 pints of them one evening... :dead:

I hit up Oskar Blues after a ride at Heil and did the same thing, had 3 of them and got up to go the bathroom - "oh this is gonna be a loooooooong drive home"

Now i'm drinking Three Floyd's Zombie Dust clone I made a few weeks back - damn good stuff if you like Citra.

As part of a "thank you" for giving their son one of the original Stray Cat sample bikes, my neighbor gave us sampler 12-packs of New Glarus (yummy!) and Blue Moon. Had a Blue Moon Belgian Pale Ale last night, and my wife said "well, at least they got 1 of the 3 descriptions right.... it does taste like an Ale".

Wouldn't recommend it (tasted like a relatively boring Brown Ale to me).

Just had a bottle of my De Molen, Bloed, Zweet & Tranen (Blood, Sweat & Tears) it's a smoked Stout from the Netherlands.

Wonderful peat smoked aroma, lots of Islayish iodine, smoke and Ham.
Good head at first, recedes quickly though, no lacing. Dark... impenetrable in the lighting conditions at home this evening.
Pour carefully, there is a bit of sediment in the bottle.
Lots of body, thick and meaty.
Creamy mouth feel.
Nice roasted malt backbone up front then bitter sweet chocolate comes though with rich berries and smoke, richness nicely balanced out by the hops. Long long finish.
I’m now feeling very happy with my decision to acquire this before I’d even tried it.

Beer available via the www.cultbeerstore.co.nz soon. (I have kept one case for myself, the crew at Hashigo Zake has grabbed absolutely everything else in the shipment I brought in).

I haven't posted on teh monkey in years, but I've recently started riding again. And the drinking? Well, the drinking never ceased.

Right now I'm in between beers, but I started the night off with a Sam Adams Summerfest, followed by a Sierra Nevada Torpedo, followed by a Firestone Solace, followed by a pint of Firestone Wookie Jack, followed by a pint of Stone Ruination IPA. I think I'll head to the fridge for a Red Hook Long Hammer IPA.
