Solid lineup.

What age is it you to be to go to jr. worlds? Isn't it only 17 and 18 year olds?
I can only assume that Jay Fesperman and Luca Shaw are not old enough to go or they
would surely be on the team.
I think it is awesome and really shows the new growth of the sport here on the east coast when all of the fastest guys here are young guns. Neko, Rude, Fesperman, Shaw etc....
It seems all the racing these kids do here at young ages is starting to pay off. The West Coast always
produces contenders, and with both sides being strong that should help the US talent pool at the world cup level in the future.

D.Riff does qualify at pretty much all the world cups. He might no be a top 10 but he's a presence there.

I thought Phil Kmetz had some pretty good results. I was hoping that he would have been given a shot. All of those names are worthy of going.

Riffle went from uber stoner bike-bro to hipster in a matter of 3-4 years.

I wonder if he still can't figure out how to open the pool gate at the Mt. Creek condos.

Ya, but after 6-7 years of factory support and attending all WC's you should be doing A LOT better than just barely qualifying at most WC's.
Not sure I agree. There's only a fistful (teehee) of pro's that are consistent top 20 threats every year. Outside of the elite riders, everyone else seems to be fighting just to be a consistent qualifier. Some of these riders fade into obscurity, some are able to make the leap (I would say Needles is finally living up to his expectations), and some are able to be consistent qualifiers but never be podium threats (cough somebodies Norco teammate). Regardless of how you feel, Riffle has a long list of empirical data that justifies his participation that frankly most US racers don't have. Maybe the other US racers should do what the OZ's and NZ'ers do and bootstrap it on the other side of the pond if their aspirations are to compete at the highest level of the sport.

a crash will do that. he then showed logan how a top level WC racer does it at this year's natty champs.
You really have a comment for everything on here don't you. It's a shame most of them are so stupid.

He got beat at a high profile event by someone on your list of people "who can't touch him". I'm pretty sure Neko also beat him last season. Whether he crashes or not is irrelevant, as it is an obvious part of racing and the results.

Not saying I would bet against him, but it's tough to say those people can't touch him, as results show that they have (since he has come into form).

It's an awesome team... not just a top rider.

It's easy to say, no one on the team can come close to Gwin. The only way is if he crashes, even then, maybe not still.

You are correct, he did get beat by Neko last year, at a GRT. But dude, lets be real. It's f@cking Gwin, we're talking about. He's has been the fastest man down the tack how many times at a world cup?

I mean this in no disrespect to anyone on the team, they all are fast and earned their spot.

But dude. Gwin.

So is this a bigger team than we have normally had? It seems like it is. I'm guessing that is based on WC points, so we can probably thank Aaron Gwin for making our team so big.

As for D. Riff. I'm glad to see him going. I'm not sure what US rider is more deserving and not on the team. Who did you guys have in mind?

I do see some riders on the other parts of the list that could never qualify for a World Cup. It's good for them that at the Champs you don't have to as we saw last year with Mauritius!

None of the other world cup contenders have been able to touch him for 2 seasons, he's already sealed the deal on a 2nd world cup overall and outdid 'the Alien'. WITH Crashes he's still top 5 in the few races he didnt win.

WTH are you smoking dude?

Yes it's an awesome team, no doubt.

And Usain Bolt got eliminated from World Championships last year due to a false start. Doesn't mean he still isn't the fastest man on earth...

Over your shoulder whispering
Riffle can ride the big boy tracks at World Cup pace and qualify on all styles. I've had a private conversation with a Pro who said he had a great, clean, fast run that would win him most any event he entered and he still placed out of top 60 at a Euro WC.

The fact that Riffle can show up and punch his own ticket on the World Cup clock is huge. I personally think him going is going to be very beneficial to the rest of the team. His experience will be like a second coach. He's earned it.

:stupid:

I'm not from the US, but the Riffle-bashing that happens here always amazes me. He's consistently up there, which makes him a logical choice for your National team...

That may be true but I still don't understand why a team manager would pick up Riffle over someone like Strobel or Scoles.
Lots of reasons. Not speaking specifically about Riffle, Strobel, or Scoles, but a rider may be more personable or more useful from a technical feedback perspective. Obviously performance comes first, but all things more or less equal, I could see reasons for choosing one rider over another.
