I've had enough ****ty coffee and I work 2-3day/week from my house so I decided to get something to make good coffee in my flat.

I'm currently looking at buying a Chemex or an Aeropress but the first one is much less work and the taste seems a bit better. Any other options to try before I decide to drop my cash? Drip was never my thing. Cold drip is ok but not amazing. French press sucks.

I have a Chemex, I like it ALLOT. The pour did take me a while to get down, how you pour the water over the grounds makes a pretty big difference

Yeah I know. Worst thing about it a friend who would teach me is leaving Warsaw soon but I'm gonna bug some people I know. The only thing is I need to find a good grinder.

Chemex is a PITA, slow as hell and inconsistant results.

I like Melitta coffee makers.
To be honest if you do it right the results are consistent. I know they won't be at first but looking at how good my barista friends do it - they are 99% consitant. You just have to learn it properly not pour it like it's a instant coffee.

Moka pot or Bialetti.
Really cheap and easy to use. Easy to clean. Makes fantastic coffee. Quicker than any coffee maker I've ever used.
Also great for camping and road trips. I always bring my own drugs.

Silly people. Coffee is merely a tool to ensure the headaches don't creep in and the urge to punch people in the face isn't present. Taste is irrelevant.

I have a french press, semi-automatic espresso machine and stove top espresso maker.

Right now I like my Bodum stove top espresso maker the best. It's easy, constant and makes a wicked good cup of coffee. Not as intense as the espresso shots from the electric machine but stronger then say getting an americano at the coffee shop. Clean up is easier then the french press too. Mine makes enough cofee for two mugs.

I prefer to stay awake and not have a taste of mud in my mouth. I'm not Bear Gryls or whatever that discovery dude is called.

I'm looking into a new maker as well. My $13.95 Mr. Coffee wally world special makes coffee that tastes like John Madden's ass sweat.

you guys are way to anal for me, boil water, pour over finely ground beans using a brown melitta filter is as far as I go
Drink a properly made chemex from a good mix with a sour taste and you will never want to go back. Trust me. The only thing that could beat that is one cold brew the local coffee nerds did that brewed in cold water for 24h and supposedly tasted like good whiskey.

The only problem with aeropress is that's it is a pita to do and it only makes 1 cup of coffee. I can buy an 8 cup chemex. Not that I will ever need 8 cups of chemex a day but if someone comes in it's still useful. Also cold chemex is better than cold aeropress.
The Aeropress is stupid easy. If it seems like a PITA you're doing it wrong. You're right it only makes one cup though. I'm still super happy with mine for one cup at a time, very very good, easy coffee making.

If you're not willing to try new things you may never find something better. I was not very convinced by hipster coffee at first too ;)

@HAB - never tried to do it. It just looks like a PITA. Maybe I should try it. The taste is good though I prefer chemex but if it's easier why not try it.

I've got some small cheap machine I bought for like $15. I couldn't even tell you what brand. It runs hot water through coffee grounds, through a brown paper filter, and into a pot. Works like a charm.

I just use this with a little cream

That said, I do punch people in the face alot.

Actually, I am curious about what can produce a sh!t tonne of good coffee versus just one cup at a time of good coffee. Have a 2 year old, so me and the lady are basically using beer funnels for our morning coffee infusion.

While I personally like press pot coffee, my gal and I have this OTHER thing that her parents got us and it makes a fantastic pot. Ours is made by Bodum and is called a Santos, but I believe it might just commonly be called a vaccuum pot or something? Looks like this, makes 8 cups on your stove top:

The way it works, I believe it always brews with the water at the right temp, since it "pushes" the boiling water up into the upper globe and as it does it cools off to the exact right temp. Then it creates a vaccuum and sucks the brewed coffee back into the caraffe. It's like a good cup of joe and a science experiment in one!

(Also, if one of the other types of coffee makers mentioned earlier is the same as this, I apologize...)

I never drunk vacuum coffee. A friend here has one that he made himself and it looks like it was made by Gigger but never had a chance to try. Need to do it since the idea is really neat.

I don't understand why the Aeropress is a PITA? At least, no more so than any other coffee maker.

Like any coffee maker, you have to put a filter in it, and scoop grounds into the filter.

Then, you dump water in, give it a stir for a few seconds, and plunge over the cup.

Cleanup is limited to pulling the bottom off and pushing the plunger the rest of the way through over the trash can, to eject the filter and grounds all out. They claim you don't have to rinse it because the rubber plunger cleans everything - I give it a quick rinse in the sink, though.

What's a PITA? Certainly less than a Chemex, which requires careful and even pouring over the grounds, and a much more difficult vessel to clean.

My barista friends may have shown me a more anal way to make coffee in aeropress.
