finally dropped the hammer on a pistol and got a S&W M&P 9mm. i really wanted their range kit (3 mags, mag holster, holster and speed loader) but couldnt find it anywhere so i ended up getting the extras that i wanted. i got a Blackhawk Serpa holster, LuLa speed loader and 200rds of Remington 115grain.

the gun feels great with the larger grip on it but is a bit heavy for the pants i wear when i wear it concealed. its not too big of a concern since im getting my fiance the M&P9 compact as a late xmas present which ill use too.
I got the S&W over the Sig 2022 i was looking at mainly because of ergonomics, lack of accessories and more importantly, build quality.

i found a 24hr range near my house that ill be joining tomorrow and trying to get as much range time as possible. both my fiance and i are going to be taking a basic handgun class then a advanced class after that. im not new to handguns but id still like to take classes to be even more confident, especially carrying it concealed.

edit: whats weird is at two stores, the trigger pull feel a bit gritty before firing but this one i bought doesnt feel that way at all.

Chances are those weapons were test fired by perspective buyers or the shop staff. The shop probably just field stripped and wiped down instead of a full cleaning.

Nice!
I am not sure if you have one but a good stiff gun belt helps a lot. Not only will it keep your pants up but it retains the holster better and won't twist when you draw.
After you get good and comfortable with handling the smith, you may want to look into trying some of the shooting sports (IDPA, USPSA etc.) since you get to draw from your holster and shoot in ways very different from straight down a range.
Have fun with it!

i already started looking into a good belt since my is indeed twisting a bit under the heavy weight. thankfully this holster holds onto my casual belt extremely tight and has a few locating tabs to hold it in place. im sure with a sturdier belt, itll be perfect.
i already started looking into shooting competitions....and trying to figure out how much more i have to spend :D

Looks like all you would need are a couple magazine carriers - and ammo!

i think you also need a vest too, no?
the range kit would have come with a mag holster and an extra mag but i figured i didnt need it just yet.

this is a competition at the local gun club which looks like a ton of fun. and expensive

That is a lot of steel!
Most of the matches I shoot are < 100 rounds (don't need a vest, just something to cover your gun).
I started reloading a couple years ago and 100 rounds of 9mm runs me about $8-$9. My wife shoots too and I figured it took me about 6 months to break even on the equipment.

my fiance's father reloads all his ammo as well and pushed me towards a 9mm since he has a stockpile i can take from when i need to. id love to get a reloader but its a bit too much for me right now (of course i chose another expensive hobby .) i am anxious to learn on his Dillon press though.

I remember that now! Sounds like you are set. No need to buy a press if there is one available you can use.
IDPA nationals are a half hour from my house in 2012 so maybe I will see you there!

the gun is great. great weight and little recoil. shot 199 rounds today....would have shot 200 but one shell got marred for some reason and didnt seat in the breach. got a few hundred more rounds at the local gun shop and will be going back soon.

the club i joined is pretty nice as well...especially the action range! im looking forward to being able to shoot at night since its a 24hr range.

decided to stipple my gun the other night. what a huge difference it made to the gun. the smooth surface of the grip was a bit of a pain when sweaty or wet but now it's perfect. the backstrap was a bit tricky because of its material and the solder gun melted it way too fast and easy.

going to do my lady's Shield now too

i got a Desantis thumb break leather holster for my edc with a SOE Cobra belt. the kydex Blackhawk isnt all to comfortable to wear everyday imo. im about to pull the trigger on a Hidden Hybrid Holster since i like to carry iwb as well as owb.

Add the shoulder strapsystem to the serpa, that way its under arm... Takes place of the paddle mount... That is were is really excells... bout another 40 bucks, also if you jsut take the paddle off and use it as a standard belt type it feels a lot mroe comfy

For on the belt your right though, it gets a little cumberson with the paddle, you can take the paddle off though.... Although for belt concealment I like bianchi leather for that

the shoulder strap wouldnt work for me unless im wearing a cover shirt. i usually only wear a tshirt which is why i want a iwb/owb holster to try out.
i now use the belt attachment since i have a real belt but it still sticks out too far from my side to conceal well.

See my thing is I dont care if it is not totally concealed or if you notice it, I am more looking at functionality. I do not carry mine literally all of the time, mostly when I am hiking or riding in the middle of nowhere, or making bank runs. I goes with me and usually stays in the truck or the office at work, I have a seat holster for when driving...

So went down to the local Gall's tonight for a bit with the lady friend and I have come to the determination that with the xd 40 there is no real good way this will ever be concealed. The Bianchi was the best but it was so damned tight you would never get a draw on it. So other than the shoulder harness I just have to realize that as this is the new edc I am just going to have to deal with the fact that I am going to have to show certs when asked...

I'm pretty new to hand guns and I used my buddies M&P 9 for my CCW class last week. I REALLY liked the way it shot. Not at all sure what I want to get just yet. I'd like to shoot the M&P 9c.

I shot a friend's Glock G27 while at the class and while I thought it felt REALLY awkward to shoot I grouped all the shots nicely. I think it's because the grip is so short and the back strap has a funky angle. Quite a bit more kick than the M&P 9 too.

i thought the same thing when it came to handling all Glocks, even the Gen4's with the swapable backstraps. of all the polymer frame guns i looked at, the M&P felt the most natural and comfortable in my hand. the stippling job i just did make it even better.
the M&Pc's grip was a bit too short for me, even for CCW.
