At my previous employer (largest supplier of primary trainer aircraft for the USAF and USN), there were times when the CEO put out some not so subtle hints (without actually saying names) of which canidate was best for our business (ie if canidate X wins you'll keep your jobs). I was shocked how open folks talked about that.

While I got my WARN notice, these same executives were asking the bankruptcy court if they could get a bonus.............

I've had a few employers vaguely (or not so) suggest who we should vote for, unfortunately I'm in an industry that statistically does better when there is a Repub as pres.

One standout moment Freeland recalls is a conversation with a billionaire who spoke with great sympathy about some friends who'd come to him for investment advice. "And he said to me, 'You know what? They only had $10 million saved. How are they going to live on that?' I kid you not, he was really worried about them."
Only $10M? Fvcking peasants.

I remember something a few months ago where Papa John (Papa John's Pizza) said he was going to raise the price of their Pizzas to offset the rise in the healthcare costs under Obama care. I think Romney even had a fundraiser at the house of the Papa John guy.

Yeah, he sounded like a fool:

Papa John's CEO John Schnatter says that Obamacare will result in a $0.11 to $0.14 price increase per pizza, or $0.15 to $0.20 cents per order, Pizza Marketplace, a trade publication, reports.

My employer would never tell me who to vote for, but if my co-workers heard I was voting for Romney, I would be laughed out of the office.

I have 3 jobs 1 i have a few rental houses 2 i have a recruiting agency 3 a day job that i am paid by a big corp. My tax rate is 38% on job 3 & 15% on jobs 1&2 that i set up corporation so i get paid on a 1099 dividend. I am by no means wealthy. Now with the new health savings act. my small companies 1&2 dividend will be taxed at 43%. I have 9 employees from the the rental business. First friday in nov we are having a meeting ill either sell the realestate & fire everyone or keep it going. Its not my responsibility to employee people i do have a tax obligation that i will pay but for small businesses we dont have many loopholes or deductions if you are like me & my income from job 3 is too high every deduction i want to take is disallowed because i make too much money. I am just planning ahead for retirement & i get my ass nailed to the wall. Every scenario is diff dont have wealth envy because many of those ceos are at public tradded companies that everyone has a piece of in a 401k & we attack the big corps & they fold if you have a share in your 401k we all lose.

Like any of them pay more than 13% after their accountants get finished with deductions and exemptions. 39.5% is a bogyman number

1) Since when is 9 greater than 50?

2) If your marginal tax rate is 38% (soon to be 43%), that means your taxable income (after costs, deductions, and so on) is $388k+. Also, the marginal tax rate of 38% or 43% is only on the amount avove $388k. Yeah........ really not feeling that bad that you might have to pay an extra 5% in taxes on that amount that you earn over $388k.

Edit: Wait, what do you mean "Now with the new health savings act. my small companies 1&2 dividend will be taxed at 43%." I had thought that you were referring to the mandatory health care costs in the ACA, but on second read it appears that you're conflating the expiration of the Bush Tax cuts (and the lower dividend and cap gains rate of 15%) reverting back to ordinary income with the ACA? Or is there some other aspect of the ACA which would cause (what I'm assuming to be a C-Corp) to be taxed as income vs dividends?

And it doesn't upset you that if you just made more money or owned a larger (multi-state or international) company you'd pay a lower tax rate?

Capital gains and loopholes for the ultra wealthy mean that your tax rate is higher than it could/should be. You are subsidizing them.

But unless they go into the booth with you (or sit on my couch while I vote by mail) they can think I voted for anyone I care to disclose. While I think it's sh!tty for them to do, it's kinda like freedom of speech and stuff. And in Oregon, you can be fired without reason, so make one up.
Excellent point...but I fear the slippery slope on this one being them asking you who you are aligned with as t a pre condition to employment or keeping your employment...
