in all honesty, downhill bike prices have gone full retard over the last 3 years.
plus, my downhill rides (which used to last 3-4 hours or actual riding time when i started biking) are now 40 minute rides, or ten 2-min dashes....

with prices like that, and the constant need for maintenance/replacement (like every 2 hours of use, something breaks)... my next 2 wheel toy, will probably be a dirtbike or a dual sport/touring bike.
alexis the future is here have a look:
really cheap dh bike by transition

You are wrong.

For the price you would pay to get a DH bike 3 or 10 years ago, you could get something uncompromisingly better, now. Just because you can't afford the best of the best of the best anymore doesn't make bikes expensive. It's just there are more expensive option. Buy a KHS, or mid range marzocchi, or DSP dueler, they don't make the magazine ads but they are just fine.

[Let's derail this thread and make it about something totally different by the time Trekrules gets his spokes!]

P.S. ultra wide handlebars are just fine!

P.P.S. Dirt bikes are better!

fraser since you are involved to a certain degree with spec, will they offer the team replica frame as frameset only or just a limited run of complete bikes?
As far as I know, the replica bikes will ship as complete only. You can get the carbon frameset is project black only, from what I understand.

Personally, I want the white black frame.

That's the same BS as people complaining there are no good movies. There is just a new class of very expensive top of the line bikes but there are many good bikes that are priced competively. Hell you have 2 direct order companies with amazing prices. Canyon has fast delivery dates (for a bike company), yt less but the compo on them are crazy.

I don't think they will ship to Peru...

you could also just call them what they are: overpriced

That's also BS. It's a different distribution method. Not to mention in case of YT you basically give them a loan. It's great that they exist but bike shops, sponsored riders, fast warranty service, local distributors are useful (if they work good). I know you like YT but pretending everyone else is raping their clients is silly. Why the hell half of the people on RM feel they have hype up their bike like they were given to them by Jehovah?

I like it when people get butthurt because of yt.

Yes, the gambler is just plain ugly.
Do you get a % of your money back every time you spam a board with YT stuff? Do you? Serious question.

We get it. You like YT... Maybe abit too much....

It'll end when their completely unmaintainable business model crumbles and they are out of borrowed money.
Hopefully. This method of taking money and giving the customer somewhat the idea that they may be delivered is retarded to me, never would I spend $4000+ with the hopes of having it after the season is well under way(April/May). Much rather support a legit company with a legit business model selling to legit bike shops that I know in the end will be there to support any issue I have. :)

It is a loss-leader thing. ;) Their other bikes are sold as normal mail-order.
But is quite amazing that they are basically doing the same thing Specialized and many others are doing: engineering in their home country, sending drawings to Taiwan, selling the product. They only cut out the middle man and don't sponsor any high-flying pros (OK, they sponsor Lacondeguy) and offer their full DH bike at a price you can't even get a frame from Speci for.

Canyon also managed to become one of the biggest bicycle companies in germany with this business model. But they had one of the worst delays for bikes too. Just like other pre-order bikes too. A friend waited way longer for his slash than I waited fot my tues. Funny how 'insiders' still think they won't get their margins with this stuff. You all seem to be desensitized from the insane pricing of the establishment so much that you can't figure out what components cost a manufacturer.

Loss-leader bwahaha. If you consider the scalp-blowout and the fox-distributor-price-list you can build a ltd as a manufacturer probably between 2000 and 2500€. They actually sold more ltd's than normal ones last year. Why would they do this if they would loose money from it? You can also check their finances as a GmbH @ e-bundesanzeiger to see that they are solid.

The secret of yt lays in the small size of their startup while outsouring everything else.

Funny as someone who isn't an "insider" you seem to pretend you know a lot about companies inner finances.

Please stop claiming regular distribution companies have low costs because if you are not an "insider" how do you know it? I am an insider (worked for a company, still get free parts from time to time, still work for them from time to time) and the costs are not as low as you say. There are no crazy margins so please stop the my bike is good so all other are crap BS.

we just look it up?

go to www.bundesanzeiger.de/ and search for "yt industries"
you'll find their annual statement for the years of 2009 and 2010 there. they made a small profit in 2010 which they used to reduce their debts. these debts are from their former activities when they were called sponsoree gmbh.

all there for everyone to read, do it...

I know you can look that up but he was speaking about margins and costs, not profits.

No, friend had a complete and frame on order, frames were at the office in The Netherland,s but were sent back, due to error in front triangles or something.

My new project is already underway, 2013 Session 9.9
must be preproduction frames? - info I got is that they will not be available before late December/ early 2013.....
