That's because it's not a 2012 bike, it's a 2007 bike that hasn't been replaced or significantly updated because the folks behind it don't have any cash.

Better off with a Karpiel, at least they are cool again thanks to Wil White.

It's a bummer, I thought they were on the come-up with Steve Smith and Tyler Morland reppin' their product and making it look rad. By the way, where's Ben Boyko?

Looks like 2011 they lowered the bb a little and slackened the head angle. still pretty old school geo

They changed it in '11 or '12.. 1.5 headtube, iscg mounts, lower bb..

Had an 08 now have a late 11/12. Huge diffrence, bike is a pound and a half lighter, lower, no more interrupted seat tube. No iscg mounts, they have an iscg mount that fits over some grooves on the bb shell but I just use a standard e.13 one.

what needs to be updated? they just lowered it, slackened it, and lightened it up...it's a burly as f*ck bike that works well and is super durable, and rides really well...perfect pnw dh bike imo

BB height 14,3" and a 64° headangle is already oldschool? If it's too steep, put a CaneCreek Angleset in it. If you want a Lower BB, buy Burgtec offset bushings.

I've ridden a '09 shocker of a friend of mine and all I can say is that the rear end soaks up everything.

14.3 for an 8inch travel DH race bike is too tall, yes. They need to get with it and optimize their geometry. Ideal geometry is no secret anymore. So the only reason for un-optimized geometry is either A. incompetence/laziness, or B. budget.

I've got one. Had a 2011 and busted that so i'm now on the 2012 frame. All of the problems from the 2011 strength wise have been taken care of. So i've been riding the new version shockers for over a year. Coming off a v10 i felt right at home on the shocker. Its hard to explain but it just works. Its not made overly complicated pivot bearing wise. I was always having to tighten my lower pivots on my v10 but have never had to do that with the shocker. Suspension wise it rides pretty similar to the v10, however i feel it is even better in the rough. I run an angle set at 1 degree and also have offset bushing but haven't bothered trying them out.

Wish i could be more help but i just ride the thing. Only things i would change if i could are built in bump stops and water gets in the main frame so you need to drill a hole in the bb to let it out. There's no marketing bs with cove and it rides a treat. I really can't complain about anything, great customer service and the bike just works.

You know that things like BB height are also a matter of rider preference, there is no optimal value for each and every rider, track etc.? Some like it ultra low, some higher.

Correct me if Im wrong; is the Shocker's suspension strongly similar to DWL and Maestro, dual links that move in the same direction? How is it different from those two (aside from pivot placements), and the resulting difference in ride characteristics. Same goes for the Banshee Legend on this inquiry...

So im not the only one? I have the wrong sized seatpost but use a shim and always thought that was the cause.

Yes that's what i always thought. But no water can get into the bb area from the seat post as its solid at the bottom. I learnt this as i had to cut the BB out for warranty claim. The water to my knowledge gets in where the shock mount/ pivot point are welded on the top of the downtube as under the mount there are two small holes on each side. You can't see these from the outside.

Thank god, those abominations were so ugly they caused a disturbance in the force.
They may resurface because what went bust was their parent company. Though Jan had some crazy ideas (a flexy bike is good...)and their geo/travel setting really screwed the suspension. Not to mention I know of some cracked ones and to get it low you had to set it up with crazy long chainstay.

Yes, but 14.3 on an 8inch bike is outside the range of any reasonable rider preference.

nobody wants their bb height to be too low, unless:
A. you ride trails that look more like a bmx track.
B. you are a trend whore.

i used to run a 13.7" bb height 7" bike. i used to scrap the ground/rocks much too often....
