I am glad Vettel kicked Alonso's a**. After all of the protests against Red Bull during the year, the whispers about the unfair advantages of the Red Bull, Ferrari's schenanigans with the gearbox -- and Alonso's statements that he is proud of Ferrari for explicitly taking advantage of the loophole in what I would deem and unsportsmanlike manner -- and yet Ferrari/Alonso still came up short. Alonso can drive, but I think Vettel is better overall. Here's to a few more Championships.

I also got to give props to the Red Bull team. It just seems to me that they are more creative and able to push the technical boundaries much more effective than their competitors. Unfortunately that seems to create some bitterness among its rivals.

id have to argue that Alonso is/was the better driver this past year(s.) he came up three points short to Vettel with a car that was no where near as fast as the RB8 or even the MP4-27. what took Massa more then half the year to figure out, he was able to do pretty much from the start in Australia. and towards the end when SF didnt bring updates for several races, he still managed to be on the podium (bad luck to other teams did help i will admit.) yes, im a SF fan but his driving was impressive.

Kimi was also another "sleeper" this year. finishing third w/ one win at the end of the season and from coming back after a few years off (partying and crashing) shows he still has it

RBR has been pretty much untouchable the past three years and it probably wont change for 2013. im hoping with the bigger rule changes in 2014, we'll be able to see more teams competing.

Are there any rumors of a US team starting up at any point? also, any american drivers in the ranks?

Was kinda bummed to see Hulkenburg have issues near the end. I have found myself pushing for force india this year. I have liked Di Resta too.

no US teams that ive heard of. everyone probably got scared after seeing what happened with the USF1 team as well as the astronomical prices involved with a team (maybe an american company can buy HRT for 30mil Euro :D.) having a hq based in america like USF1 had intended, makes it super tough on a small team. and realistically, these small teams are almost wasting their money competing IMO. i dont know how much they get from the Concorde Agreement but it cant be enough to even cover all of their overhead.

Alexander Rossi who is Caterham's test driver and Conor Daly who tested for Force India have been names thrown around but they have only had limited seat time and i dont think either have their Super License. we need another Andretti but sadly Scott Speed was the last one to compete

Well I stayed up to watch last night. Tuned into the stream for the delayed q2 qnd 3, and son of a gun. Vettel rolling,
.4 up on Webber for a RBR front row. Guess I will stay up tonight too, but was really not hoping it would start like this. Still pumped for the start of the season though.

Saw that speed had the coverage up before NBC did.

Stupid dvr
Time Warner Cable at it's finest...

Failed to record last nights race. My choice is now to try and avoid knowing the result until the replay this afternoon. Or read the result and watch the replay anyway.

Same here on the replays. I think it aired 3 times Sunday.
Kind of like the split screen on some commercials too. They have had the wrong audio with the in car cam a couple times, but no big deal.

Massa is a pleasant surprise this year. His start on the first race was perfect. I actually though he rolled it but, the replay showed otherwise.
Alonso took himself out in the 2nd race, and I hate that for him, and Vettel showed he is above team orders.
I'm sticking with Kimi this year
Good season so far though.

Alonso didn't make the decision apparently. Domenecali said they told him to stay out since they wanted to switch to drys soon and didn't expect the wing to fail at the end of the pits

And Vettel is a little brat. I don't blame webber for being pissed... What a dick move

Yeah I read that. Can't believe the decision. Nobody saw the sparks flying from it?? The first lap crap is what kept him from winning last year. Alonso is still trying to figure out why Vettel was stopped in the first corner. I say Vettel went into the first corner watching the mirrors, and brake checked him.

If I was Webber I would take the 3 weeks off, beat his ass then go surfing. That is going to be a good team dynamic to watch unravel even more this year.

You could see what they were thinking but it was always going to be more than a lap or so before it would be reasonable to switch to dry tires, so it really ended up being a stupid decision.

Agreed on Vettel, although hasn't Webber done exactly the same previously?

probably but, It was Vettel. I know he is re-writing the books on a lot of records, but.... it is Vettel. I started disliking him his rookie season when he crashed Kimi coming out of the tunnel at Monaco. I even tried to jump on the band wagon and like him a bit last year. Just couldn't do it.

Whether you agree with team rules or not they are there and if you are going to be on the "team" you go by the rules. It came down to SV wanting those 8 points, and making up his own mind on what he was going to do. Not that I think RBR will give him anymore than a strong "talking too" about team play.

Next stop China.

will buxton said it best:
What upset me most on Sunday was the way in which Sebastian Vettel dealt with the post race reaction to his win. And it showed that in many ways, he is still a child and not yet an adult comfortable enough with the man he truly is to take responsibility for his actions.

The crocodile tears. The faux resentment. The claims he’d made a mistake, that he was sorry, that he’d “****ed up.”

Rubbish.

He knew exactly what he was doing, and I’d wager he’d do it again in a heartbeat. Because that’s what he does. That’s his nature. That’s why he is one of the greatest drivers of his or any generation.

He exists solely to race and to win.

Ironically enough, on Sunday afternoon Sebastian Vettel gave the fans what they wanted to see. He said, “To hell with team orders. You can shove them. I’m here to win, not to finish second and I’m not turning down my engine until I know I can’t be beaten.”

I only wish he’d been man enough to admit it.

It was interesting to see the same thing happen for 3rd/4th, makes Rosberg look like a bit of a p*ssy
While I don't really care for Rosberg or the tires playing such a role in the outcome of the race I think it made him look like a good employee.

The "well they are racers going for the position" argument is not applicable here. They were both told by their boss what to do. One did it and the other didn't. I know what I do if that is the case with one of my employees. I don't tell them "knock it off this is silly" like Horner did.

That picture is great though.

Congratulations NBC Sports, time delay the broadcast of the race. Then show a sports news segment right before your broadcast giving coverage and the winner of the race.

Fortunately I had it DVR'd and the second it came on I started fast forwarding because NBC always has some 15 minute update about minor league baseball results or something before they'll let you watch the scheduled program. But yeah, that was pretty bad.

While a standard engine is powered by a belt connected to the crankshaft, a turbo engine runs on its own exhaust steam, making it more energy efficient.

Turbo engines also tend to be slower taking off -- not ideal for F1 racing. But once in full flight, they maintain speed well, and today you'll often find turbo engines used in trains, trucks and construction equipment.

Indeed, throughout the 1980s, the powerful turbo was the F1 engine of choice, able to perform at high altitudes and grip onto steep angles.

Pretty interesting season we've got going on here. Hopefully someone can really start to give the Red Bulls a fight.
Well, that didn't really happen did it. Maybe in '14. Once again they will water down the cars to try and tighten competition. Anybody hit the Texas GP?

Like everyone else I'm pretty disappointed with the new sound, although the cars do sound a whole lot better in the amateur videos that I've seen vs the TV broadcast. However, the cars seem a lot more challenging to drive, I think the technology is interesting, and the rule changes do seem to have mixed up the grid a bit so I won't tune out just yet.

So we see the finger again! Wasn't really expecting that outcome, but glad it wasn't LH or NR for a change. Ferrari is impressive in their progress this year, and Vettel seems to be liking the car. Would certainly like to see Kimi cross the line first a couple times this year. Regulations continuing to water down the sport, and officials handing out penalties like candy sucks though. Big decisions like paint schemes on helmets so fans can recognize drivers.

very surprised to see Vettel on the top step even though he did well all weekend. i still will refrain my eating my hat on my stance on him until he has another successful weekend. Kimi had a better drive imo coming from the back to finish 4th. i cant attribute SF's success on Sunday to just Vettel. they made a good strategy call (finally!) and it paid off for them. plus, the new car is surprisingly easy on the tires which did make a big difference in that sauna of a race and their cooling package was on point. James Allison even said they dont think a repeat will happen anytime soon especially with the power difference everyone has to Merc.

Not that Alonso needs the cash but I said to my wife when we were watching, he should just head out of the race track and buy a lottery ticket.
