Most homicides here in Rochester are done with stolen handguns. Basically guns legally held by irresponsible owners to stupid to secure them properly. Something like 90% of the recovered murder weapons are stolen.
I shot a lot of guns as a kid, all acquired unbeknownst to the owners. My buddy Jamie found the hidden keys to his fathers and the neighbor's gun safes. Knowing folks work schedules we 'borrowed' and shot before anyone got home. These were folks who thought they were doing a good job keeping their guns secure. In later more delinquent years my friend admitted to stealing a 1911 from his neighbor and trading it for a bag of weed.

Front Range, dude...
while not entirely able to stop the shooting, Jeanne Assam (a former cop) shot and wounded the suspect before he killed himself

and another in Texas: http://cdllife.com/2012/trucker-life/video-armed-citizen-stops-shooting-spree/
Thank you for reesponding for the amazonian dipsh!it...whats the first one about? Incomplete...

And the second one, while a good one, doesnt exactly support assualt rifles being available to the general public, as an AR 15 weilding idiot was stopped by an old schooler with a pistol (A .357 maybe? Quote says something about a Magnum bullet...) Although engaging at that range is not tactically sound or responsible, especially in a trailer park, good shooting Tex!

One good mass shooting stop there...and by an off duty Cop working on staff at the theater. Notice also how most of the stops are either off duty Cops or handled by pistols...not assult rifles with phallic extenders. Your argument is invalid. Pleas go away.
Few recorded stats show how many crimes are committed by criminal brandishing weapons vs citizens stopping them with weapons, however people murdered with guns vs those killed by citizens with guns sits at a 20:1 ratio. Clearly we need 200% more guns.

...and extended magazines, night sites and high powered ammo. Not to mention easy access to law enforcement/military grade body armour and gear. But arming teachers and/or putting armed guards in schools is the answer...btw, who will pay for all that and who will they work for? The Right wants to give the Dept of Education an army now?

Probably. Maybe it's for commuting?

Thing is, that's a regulated item you're talking about there. You would need a license to operate it legally, and pay out the ass for insurance, part of which is in case you happen to injure or kill someone with it. And it wasn't even built for that.

Yet, assault rifle ownership requires much less red tape and extra expense, and it is expressly designed to kill.

Weird, huh?

Yep. I'm sure that will help recruit teachers...

Just the sort of environment your average teacher wants to work in.

I guess this is the sort of duty the "extra competent" mall cop types will get. They should get 2 guns. One for each hip. It'll make Em extra protection-y.

Equal rights for guns now! Gays can wait.

Tell ya what...when people start using dildos to run around and murder other people with, we should regulate them just like guns. I haven't heard of any 30rd armor piercing dildos though.

But then that leads to gay guns getting married, and after that you might as well marry your dog. Have you no decency?
There are too many guns too. Have you seen how fast they fly or run when you are hunting them?

It would be way harder than getting rid of 3-5 billion carrier pigeons and 30-60 million bison.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Some light reading...

And guess what, the NRA is full of sh!t...as if you didnt know by now.
http://news.yahoo.com/fact-checking-nra-press-conference-185542748.html

The NRA solely exists to promote gun sales and help the gun industry profit. They have just done a good job at tricking a lot of people that they are there to protect rights. Not much of a coincidence that these are the same people who have been convinced that cutting taxes for the wealthy is good for the common man and that oil companies have their best interests in mind.

Taking the advice of the NRA on the issue of gun control is like taking the advice of a car salesmen on whether or not to get the undercoating and paint sealer.
