Anyone ship something to Brazil recently? What am I doing wrong?

Someone wants to buy a complete bike I'm selling, he's in Brazil, which normally isn't a problem. But the USPS website is saying 600 dollars for a 17 lb 27x27x8 box (I was planning on breaking the bike into two wheelset sized boxes). The USPS website only gives me Global Express as a shipping option, no Priority International. Something has be to off because I shipped a DH frame (in the same size box) last year for 67 dollars. Am I missing something?

expand all options on drop down to the right. Or... look at UPS and FedEx. They are generally cheaper internationally.

I have the "display all options" box checked but the only option that is shown is Global Express, nothing else. And I double checked the parameters, I'm well within the size and weight requirements.

I've never used anything but USPS for international. Fed ex and UPS are always more expensive. I checked both and DHL for this particular shipment and they all quoted around 1000.

You're just shipping a bike? Complete, or frame only? You might need to look at the cost of breaking up the complete bike into wheel boxes, fork box, etc. It might end up being cheaper that way. I've done it before.

Look for a freight forwarder/consolidator out of Florida that can include the bike within a container shipment.
I know a lot of brazilians who ship things home this way.

Generally, USPS is the only way to go international, but I do think they've limited their options somewhat. I've never had success using the online calculator; you might have to suck it up and take it to a facility.

I'm shipping a complete but I was going to break it down into two Wheelset boxes. But the quote for one box was almost 500.

I don't understand where the option for priority international went? I used it less than a year ago for Brazil. Maybe I'll have to stop by the post office and talk to someone.

Check with danielbender on RM. He's from there and can tell you how best to do it. Probably even knows the buyer. If not, Rafael does. Usually those guys have had me ship frames I've sold them to Miami. It's worked 3 times so far.

is much better/easier/cheaper to send it to a freight forwarder in miami.
air-rates have gone thu the roof in the last 5 years.
That was my conclusion too. My advice is though that if your buyer is serious he finds a freight forwarder in Miami you send it to then he takes care of the rest. I found plenty online when I was selling my DH bike but all the buyers were to lazy to help out and I ended up selling to somebody in the US.
