I thought I had read that "most" of the gears would match but a few were noisy and somewhat jumpy on a the 10speed shimano/9speed sram?

I knew people were running the 10speed chains on the xx1. I wasn't aware of 9 having been confirmed.

I'm not sure, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's the case. If I do pull the trigger on trying this out, I'll find out.

I have read on another forum that someone was having good luck with no guide on a 10 speed set up and an XO type 2 derailleur, I don't know if I would even trust xx1 on a downhill bike without a guide
some of the sram race team has been seen running a guide on xx1 for more extreme events "just as an added measure"

I still can't quite believe it works, and the ride reports say it does (AM at least).
Seems too good to be true, so I'm going to try myself! XX1 chanring and chain, no guide, saint shadow+ on 160mm AM bike.

I love seeing stuff misused. Which post, and do you just twist to engage then release (ala: no clicks)?
the gripshift xx had a sticker on it that said not serviceable, that was only a suggestion.
Once you have the thing apart you just pop out the metal index ring
the tension on my command post is stiff enough to prevent accidental seat drops
It works slick
I will post some how to pics if anyone is interested

Customer here has made a spider that sits behind a 10 speed cassette and has 110mm chainring spacing. He's running a 39t chainring bolted to that. He's ditched the 11t cog from his cassette so it runs 13-39t and it shifts usefully. A little slow on the shift from 39 back down, but just fine from the 36 to the 39.

Lot's of little people are seeing the desire for XX1 style cassettes and some of them are making it happen.

whats shimano answer to that? I'd love to have bigger cassette but much lighter without resorting to new standard. just same "old" 10 spd. :p
