 That crash. Heal up quick, whoever you are.
I think it's awesome that a DH race can have that much spectators.
They should have at least one WC race down there. It would be awesome and they deserve it.

Also good to see Tschugg riding.

Second worst case scenario for a crash right there.
Worst would be roughly 2-3 feet short of that. Glad he wasn't hurt more seriously. Are there no hay bales or curved wood in that country?

Ok, just looked through Fraser's gallery and want to say that may be your best free gallery of pics ever. I can't imagine what you have stashed away for sale to your clients if those are one step down?

What did you different? The colors have a different feel than any of your past trips and virtually every single pic seemed to be a different angle than you've used in the past. Also, great pics fo the BBQ.

F'ing rad Dave! The size and magnitude on those gaps always amazes me, as does the whole scene down there based on your reports. Thanks for the great pics and insight. Too bad we can't have a full on WC event in Chile based on the amazing fan support.

You may consider that the race was held in the middle of the 2nd or 3rd biggest city down here....so that can partially justify the amount of people... I mean not all that people would go to a hill or mountain to watch a WC race.

I'm quite sure a lot of people (myself included) would go... But definitely not 15.000 people.

I'd love to see an offseason "season" of urban downhill races.... Here in South America we have at least 2-3 big races in our summer. Santos in Brazil, VCA here in Chile, and there is one in Colombia but I'm not sure the exact city an date.

I was at a massive BBQ last night, at the guy's house who crashed. 20+ stitches in his shin. Besides that, he walked away and threw a massive BBQ, that's just how they roll here.

Thanks dude, I appreciate it. The angles weren't 100% my choice this year. I got stuck in the massive crowd down below and was sort of limited, it worked out alright in the end, but I wasn't pleased. Normally I can stay ahead of the rush of people working their way down the track, but there was a big delay in starting, so the crowd got ahead of me and I was boned. The new photo gallery software I am using also doesn't destroy the image compression like the old one did, thankfully!

The clients are pretty happy it seems, been a decent run of sales in 2 days, so a good trip all around. Great shuttles yesterday with Bizet and some others and an EPIC day ahead up at 14 000' with a bike park and an hour ride down sick singletrack into town.

That dirt shot of Guido is a little teaser for 2014/2015. The track is going to get about 1 minute longer, and the extension will be 80% dirt singletrack!

Seems like such an awesome race to be at. The locals seem to be super nice people, and the riding stoke is through the roof. I mean where else can you ride and get random locals racing to help you hike your bike? Our sport is wicked mon!

He's doing it wrong. Just gotta turn it right side up at he'll be all set.
Martin's style is so sick. I've seen some pretty gnarly crash pics and clips from Valpo this year, I hope every one is okay!

Anyone got a link for full results with timing?

Balls? Yes. Balls of Steel? No. Throwing "caution to the wind?" Definitely not. Why you may ask? Well, this entire course was set up, measured, scoped and cleaned up. There was little need for anticipation or caution on the part of the rider. He obviously already knew the entire course. I think real bike riding down a steep hill in a real "Urban" setting with real long jumps, not fabricated, would be a tad more ballsy. And I'm sure there are plenty of video's to be found of just that. Still though, nice biking. Now, if you really want to see a real Olympiad, show me the Uphill competitions.
This is all nice and dandy, until something goes wrong. Incredible to see the control the drivers have over their bikes, but still, it's a 200+ kg (I'm just pulling that number out of my arse, but I guess those bikes have to weight a nice bit) thing and if that gets a mind of its own, people standing behind some puny metal contraption some 50 cm away will be toast.

I dug around for ages to find more than the top-5, this is the best I could come up with:
http://www.rootsandrain.com/race1803/2013-feb-24-vca-urban-13-valparaiso-cerro-abajo/

If you know of more complete results anywhere, let me know so I can update that page. Thanks!
