To verify the rules - Since this is the only race I do, I'll enter as "sport class". A buddy wants to come and race as "beginner class". Can we buy this ridiculously retarded license that won't do either of us Jack Schitt at the event? If so, how much? EC

a USAC day license is like $5 or $10, but limited to sport/beginner (cat 2/3 respectively)

There is the option to race in the "one day" class without having to purchase an annual license.
Registration information can be found at: www.usacycling.org/register/2013-1492

So I would need to buy a season license to race in the 30-39 cat 2 to be compared to other people within that ability? Otherwise our times don't get compared to racers in that category, but rather thrown in to "the group that doesn't matter to us/open" ?

This right here nailed the casket on me passing on this race. Duryea is an awesome race and less than an hour from me, but these entree fees are ABUSRD. Especially for an event with box trucks as an uplift.
Hit the nail on the head. This race has always been one of the most fun events, but approaching $100 is ridiculous for a one track pony. Maybe next time.

Just a few updates for everyone.*

We'd like to suggest using the online pre-registration page https://www.usacycling.org/register/2013-1492, but if you are unable to access it, the Gravity East is waiving the $10 onsite registration fee.* Now onsite registration will be the same cost of online pre-registration for this race only.** Also, the Gravity East is waiving the $10 One Day License fee for*unlicensed Cat 2 or Cat 3 racers, for*this race only.* Registration fee for the One Day Men's and Women's classes is*now*$85.*Online registration accepts credit card payments and onsite registration accepts cash and credit card payments.
*
A reminder that increased entry fee pricing is for Race #1 only, the balance of the Gravity East races for 2013, entry fees, will remain the same as the past three years.
*
This is also the first of three* races in the USA Cycling PA State Championships series within the Gravity East Series and a Cat 1 Nationals qualifier.* Eligibility for the PA State Championship is legal residency in the state of Pennsylvania and a current USA Cycling annual license.*

Medals to overall PA State champions will be awarded following the final series race at Seven Springs Resort.* The other 2 races*for the PA State Championship of*the series are GES #6 Blue Mtn, PA*and GES #7 Seven Springs Resort.
*
Discount hotel rates are available from:
Rodeway Inn
2545 North 5th Street
Reading, PA 19605
610-929-4741
$65/night double occupancy
Refer to Duryea Downhill for discount
*
Lastly, not supporting a sanctioned race, hurts the promoter, local organizer and future events, the local cycling community, and ultimately the riders.* The sanctioning body does not suffer as they have already received payment to permit the event and the Fees after the event will still be paid regardless, reduced participation increases the likelihood the event may not return in the future, strong communities attract new members in any category, and individual riders get bummed that there is a negative vibe surrounding a great sport/lifestyle.

everyone is responsible for their own safety

its only a local shuttle hill too with a "handful' (;) )of trails to ride.
its 10 mins from me and my local mtn but i wont be paying $100+ to ride/race
I just registered and it makes me sick to pay $100 to race there, considering no lifts. As far as personal safety, I wonder how USAC feels about concealed carry during race venues;)

Questions for GES.
Why is Clinton Wiggins in the "Open cat 2/3", yet he races for "Gravity Race Series"? He has 590.0 points so far. I don't know the guy, so I'm not knocking him, I just wanna make sure that he's in the right category being that you're his team. I'd assume that he's not on a 1 day license.
Second- why a cat 2 and 3 now in the same category? Will they be separate or combined?

for $100 I have a hard time even complaining about the cost of entry in this thread.
Yeah man, I agree. I've always thought race entries are really reasonable for what we as riders get and what goes into putting one on. They're really low actually. I don't see how the promoters manage to put them on for what they charge. I'm at the race and it's been a great event so far...thanks GES!

nah...i'm just saying that it must be disheartening to the GES guys to go through all the effort of putting a race together then see guys sh*tting all over it on ridemonkey. it really was a good event.

Pricey and boring for the non-racer. Real considerations, apparently not considered.

I ride at Reading, I like it; reosrts give me 5x as many trails for a lower entry fee.

Do as you want; the value (obviously) isn't there - regardless of caliber.

Thanks for your inquiry!

Mr Wiggins originally registered for an incorrect category and was moved to his correct category at his request during onsite registration. All Open category riders race in one group regardless of age/skill level. The points are residual from 2012 until 2013 results are available.

The reference to "Gravity East Series" is the club reference not a team.

Cat 2/3 is combined in Men's 2/3 40+ and Women's 2/3 1-99 in the GES to help group riders. They are split into the appropriate age/category when USA Cycling receives the race results.

Thanks for your support of the Gravity East!
