Kick ass. If they really do open every weekend from June 7 through Sept. 29, let us show them they can make some cash by doing so. I wonder what their break even point is for any given day? Looked like around 6 people on the lift at the races (3 top/3 bottom). Add a few more for tickets and medical, all for 8ish hours. Figuring $8/per hour for the lift and ticket people (10 total) that is $640 for an 8 hour day. Round it up to $1000 for medical staff. Plus the cost of lift operation, any trail maintenance and the big one...insurance (I have no clue on any of these costs). So we will say $1500 for an 8 hour day just for my grade level math skills. So that is 50 riders to break even at $30 a day per rider. I really hope it cost less than that to run the place for a day, 50 riders sounds like a lot. But if they add in lodging packages, season passes sold, concessions, etc then hopefully they will start to make some money at around 20-30 riders per day.

Now I see why there was such a push to get the beginner/family trails open before they would open up on the weekends full time last year. I saw quite a few kids/families out at the last race riding around the easy trail.

If I was sure they would be open from June-Sept I would buy a season pass in a heartbeat, I might anyway just to help set the wheels in motion.

I am sure operating cost is way more expensive than that jager but we definitely need to come out and support.

In! Can't wait to see what new trails/work they will get done before, and during the season.

Should be fun

I may just buy the season pass to help out even though Im not sure I will be able to make it there enough to pay for it.

7 days is the break even. Its not just an investment, but a goal.
Yup! That is 3 Sat/Sun sessions and one Friday thrown in.

Hopefully they will sell beer at the lodge, that should really help the bottom line.

Yeah I'm sure too, I was thinking probably double that at least. But with the bike shop, concessions, etc I hope it works out and makes them some money. Especially with how the winters have been lately.

Jay they stated in their press release (scenic lift rides) do you think they will slow down the lift?
Who is doing the trail building?

I don't know much more than what everybody saw on Talia's FB post and the website. I talked to her at 11:00 this morning, but we didn't get into details.... the point of the conversation was it looks like GoJaMMedia will be helping out with pre/post race releases (including posts here at RM). I asked her if I could expand on the release she sent out today and she agreed. I told her I have some questions in which I'll need her feedback, I just haven't gathered all my thoughts yet.

I'll post more when I get some new information. Hang tight.......

Hey Jay can you ask them:

Are there any plans to build new trails before the park opens and if so, what? Is a jump line being considered and if so what will it be like (i.e. dirt jumps, an a-line or like rocky knob's pb&j)?

Everything else you want/need to know:

Vital: http://www.vitalmtb.com/community/gojammedia,19973/blog/04/26/2013/entry/493
Pinkbike: http://www.pinkbike.com/u/gojammedia/blog/Beech-Mtn-Bike-Park-OPEN-for-Biz.html

And the Q and A (also on the bottom of the PR):

Q: When will the specific details for the Race Series be released?
A: The race dates have been released, but all other information will be releases very soon. Keep an eye out for a FB Event Page, a “Save the Date” from GoJaMMedia, and the information on the Beech Mountain Resort website: www.beechmountainresort.com

Q: Are the Beech Mountain Series Races going to be USAC Sanctioned?
A: Yes, they will be USAC sanctioned races and you can use them as a Nationals qualifier if you haven’t already qualified for 2013 or for 2014 respectively (for events held after the 2013 Nationals).

Q: Where do I register for any of the Beech Series Races?
A: Registration will via the USAC website, details are coming very soon.

Q: How will the class structure be broken down?
A: We will follow USAC Categories and ages groups, then submit the results to USAC shortly after each event. However, we will recognize the class structure as follows at each of the Beech Mountain Series
for prizes, etc:
Pro Men
Pro Women
Juniors (Under 17)
Masters (+40)
Ladies (All Ages)
Cat 1/2/3 18-29
Cat 1/2/3 30-39

Q: Where can I purchase season passes/lift tickets? Can they be purchased in person?
A: Starting May 1, 2013 Beech Mountain will start selling season passes. It can be done onsite or by calling 1-800-438-2093, 1-828-387-2011. Sorry, at the moment we currently do not have an online purchase capability.

Q: Are there plans for trail expansion at the bike park?
A: Yes. There is currently a lot of work to do on the existing trails due to the residual snow amounts and temperatures we’ve been experiencing as of late. Once Mother Nature decides she wants to move into Spring, we will start work on the new trails and maintenance on the existing trails. More details will be published when they are available.

Q: What skill level will the new trails be?
A: That is still TBD. Stay tuned to Beech Mountain Resort’s website: www.beechmountainresort.com for new information as it becomes available.

Q: Who's doing the trail work and how can I help?
A: That is still TBD. There are “trail days” planned (no exact dates just yet) where we will allow those that wish to get their hands dirty as volunteers. Stay tuned to Beech Mountain Resort’s website: www.beechmountainresort.com for new information as it becomes available.

Q: When will the new trail(s) be open?
A: The current plan is to have a new trail and complete the beginner trail by the official “Grand Opening” on July 20 and 21.

Q: Will there be any "Pro" personal bike instruction?
A: Not at this time, but that is something the resort is seriously looking to offer in the future.

Q: Will there be any or is there any skill camps planned?
A: Not for 2013, but that is something the resort is seriously looking to offer in the future.

Personally, Zach, MattD and myself are stoked to announce that GoJaMMedia will be official sponsors of the 2013 Beech Mountain Race Series. At least one of us will be at each of the events this year and you can rely on GoJaMMedia for full race coverage.

We've also got some BIG things planned this year and if the planets are aligned, one of those things will take place at one of the series races this year. More on that later, so stay tuned.

I plan on being at Snowshoe for their race on 7-9 Jun but hey, the weekend after that I'll aim to be at Beech. Pretty stoked about a close-by bike park.

^^

My guess is SS will most likely see a significantly higher number of riders than Beech will, so they can make the math work out at $150.

Regardless, we should make every effort to make the math work out for Beech.

We mostly did the not-very-glamourous but necessary job of trail maintenance, didn't build anything new. However, we swept/raked the Pro and Amateur tracks, cut the necessary roots, and trimmed the branches. I think most of y'all will be happy about the absence of the annoying tree at the bottom of the drop at the end of the Amateur track. Winter and the never-ending rains took their toll on some areas but they should be in decent shape by opening weekend.

Are they going to open up all the routes on the other tracks like the ones Ryan Taylor cut and the one Lees McRae cut? Lots of old ways down the mountain that still exist.

Just a thought. And my apologies for not making it. Fatherhood called. ;)
