I don't doubt that but a 3 second gap is huge. You'd think the spandex wearing XC guys would have picked up on it first...especially since they embraced 29ers so well
1st World Cup overall, 1st World Champs, 2nd Olympics. . . . you get internet in that cave, correct?

And there you have it. The evo sticker must be good for another 0.298653 seconds...

On a side note, everyone that works at Intense seems exactly as I imagine everyone from California...

On another side note, I actually think the bike looks sweet.

such a terrible comparison on pinkbike. Different tires, different frames, different forks, same dry southern californian terrain. About as unscientific as you can get.

Can I just say that long wheelbase DH bikes suck for our riding in the South. Bigger wheels and longer wheelbases just make twisty tech so slow. I'm sure for World Cup tracks and machine built stuff, it might be fun, but that's not my world.
man the bike is long. spez has it right geo wise on there trail bike. keep the geo the same on 29 vs 26.
an even slacker head is not needed IMO.

These comparisons drive me crazy. I mean really, what's the point? Would they actually turn around and say the new bike was crappier?

The proper scientific comparisons exist among various factory dh teams, it's a matter of them making it public. The magazines could do the same easy enough, but it seems the rush to be First!!! trumps all.

if you want it to be really scientific, you'll have to remove rider bias. so we need a robot. one of the factories in tawain should be able to help with that.

Honestly a couple of riders will erase any rider bias....or something like two pros and two AMs. Of course, the first person to the bottom is really the best test, but not the most scientific.

but that leads to another notion...who gives a **** which is scientifically better if the bike rides really well with bigger wheels? If the bike, as complete, doesn't ride well, it doesn't matter which size wheel it has.

statistically speaking you'd need at least 3 riders testing each configuration to eliminate any rider bias :nerd:
oh sure, but you'd also need multiple trails, to blind the riders to their wheelsize, and to minimize weather conditions as well as the difference a few rounds on the same trail makes. Assume similar rider height and weight, same tires, same size bikes, and set up the bike to each rider's preference before each run...

FOR SCIENCE.

are we really gonna discuss a gauge R&R for wheel sizes?

I like it. Certainly an option for the intrepid. Does seem kinda long wheelbase wise tho. The ability for Intense to quickly tool up frames based on new trends and tech is pretty cool. Seems like their QC has improved?
Currently riding a long wheelbase 29r I would actually rather have a nice stable DH bike and loose just a hair of maneuverability. I think it would give me a higher margin of safety. I am not chasing seconds or podiums but I guess the weekend worries point of view is irrelevant.

The long WB comes mostly from their decision to use a really long Reach. it's not like a long CS 29er DH attempt.

Not clear to me why they slackened rather than slightly steepened HA, as designers are normally doing given 275 front wheel trail.

NORCAL is the hizzle
^^^The really slack front end also pushes the front wheel out a bit, adding to the wheelbase.

Some of you guys are pretty funny. Seriously, demanding science from RC? It's just riding impressions from some guys who got the chance to ride the bikes side-by-side. No one ever confused pinkbike (or MBA, for that matter) with a journal of engineering or science.
