Hi guys,

I have a Cannondale Chase 2008. In 2010 my parents stuck it in the garden without any cover whilst I was at University and it accumulated some rust. I took it into the shop and had the wheels replaced, the chain, the brake pads and disks and a few other bits. The shop advised me not to replace the rusty bolts and screws as this could get expensive so I left them as they are. In all it cost me something like £650. I also had a Hope Hub put on.

It's had some wear since then and it's looking a bit rough around the edges now. I'd like to give it a good clean.

The main issue is the rusty bolts. What's the best way to clean these? I've heard some say stick them in diesel, and others say use a dremal or wire wool. I want to completely remove the rust. It's only surface rust. After I remove the rust can I paint them black or would the paint come off? Also what about rust on the brake disks? I assume thats a wire wool job.

Another issue is some deep scratches on my rims. How do you go about repairing these? Would you advise sanding them down or just cover them up with a paint pen? There's some scratches on the frame. I thought about covering them with decals, or using a paint pen again. Can't seem to find anywhere that sells decals though.

I've got some Kenda K Rads on the way, and some new inner tubes. My old tires have cracked due to being left in the cold/heat. Got some new grips too.

I can't really afford to have it go back into the shop again so would like to do it myself.

Any advice would be welcomed.
