i'm generally kind of "meh" at the next gen of gaming consoles TBH. I'll probably get a wii u when a new zelda or metroid comes out. ps4? will wait till the second revision.

E3 might shed some light on which console I will get. For now Im leaning heavily toward the PS4.
Zelda and Metroid are the only reasons why I bought the Wii after it came out, but I sold not too long after I bought the PS3.
Im replaying Ocarina of Time at the moment on the Gamecube. Still the best game ever made imo.

i keep a wii around because sometimes i get the burning desire to replay those games. also, some of the newer mario games are quite fun, galaxy was pretty cool. and new SMB was quite fun too. especially since you could play up to 4 people at once.

lots of meh from the "reveal." the only thing that really stood out to me was the increase of servers to 300k from the current lot of 15k.
the only thing that made it stand out over the ps4 was its "media center" hub capability and maybe the new fidelity of the kinnect (when i play a video game, i want to sit my ass down and not jump around or interact that much with a game) both of which probably wont help it top the PS4.

i dont see myself getting a PS4 until there are enough games out that make it worth while since my PS3 games wont work....though if i do get a new system, Gamefly will keep my occupied until moar games come out i suppose.

I heard there will be some cross gen titles in the beginning so you could still play some of the new titles on the PS3.
Other then that I have a list of games I want to get for the PS3 before I buy a PS4 or XBOX One anyway. Im not in a hurry either.

I'm sort of excited and I'll tell you why:

TV as we know it is on its way out. Why do I have to be at my couch at a certain time to watch what I ant to watch? With a DVR I kind of don't have to, but why do I have to set my dvr up for that?

As we get more and more bandwidth it becomes easier to just stream all your content. I only watch regular TV now for live sporting events, everything else that I care to watch is either on hulu or hbo go or netflix.

What I want is a box to unite my digital media (streaming or saved on a drive somewhere in my house) with my TV. There is stuff out there now, but we have to admit it's clumsy. The xbox one gets me stoked because it's obvious a large player in the tech game can see that vision, even if they're not doing it exactly right yet. Keep in mind the original interface of the xbox 360 wasn't that great at first as well.

My prediction: in 10 years apple, google or microsoft will rule your living room. You will watch TV through them, you'll stream your music and movies through them and you'll share your home videos or pictures through them.

Google is working to bring gigabit fiber to american homes and has sort of made an effort using google TV to take over TV watching responsibilities. They're making the play to lay the groundwork for streaming lots of media in high quality.

Microsoft now has the ability to control your tv and browse the web using gestures and voice commands- only dorks have keyboards sitting in front of their TV (sorry to break it to you dorks). On top of that they're adding a HD camera to video conference straight off your TV. Why would I need a home telephone anymore if everyone can video conference me at home instead?

Apple... well, they haven't made anything more impressive than the apple TV yet, but a while back Steve Jobs admitted he wanted an apple product to be the centerpiece of the living room. I'm sure when they finally come out with something it'll be as functional and as polarizing as the iphone and ipad.

Oh yeah, I guess the xbox one plays games too but who really has time for that?

how is a HTPC clumsy? because theres a keyboard and mouse? id rather use that instead of a gaming remote and gestures to type something out. other then the fact that its basically a HTPC that is also its own gaming system, there is nothing that this does that other products out dont.

A keyboard is clumsy. I don't want to be sitting there drinking beer and watching super cross with my homies and have to bust out a keyboard to change volume, channel or look something up online. Not using your keyboard to control volume and channel? Great, now you need a remote AND a keyboard. Extra lame.

Anything that my 70 year old parents can't sit down and start using well withing 5 minutes is clumsy.

Sure I can setup and use a HTPC, but the general population can't without help. Until there is a device that everyone can use, people are content to just watch cable tv and save stuff for later using their DVR. Lame.

The xbox gets me excited because it shows there are companies with big budgets out there looking to transition to something better. They might not get it right on the first try but at least they are moving in that direction.

I guess I don't get it. This is a console that offers a marginal improvement over the last generation, and now has more PC-like features while not calling itself a PC. It has more PC like graphics, but is still not as good. It allows you to watch TV on your TV, just like you can with a PC, or watch streaming movies in HD just like a PC. It allows you to control the unit via a remote or controller, just like a PC.

So this is better than a PC because it A) cannot use a keyboard, B) has a monthly subscription fee for a service that's free on PC and the rest of your house, C) is not upgradeable.

I guess I just don't get what the allure is. Hell, it even looks like a HTPC. Also, I promise you, if you're so old that you can't figure out how to turn a computer on and load up the internets, you aren't figuring it out on a sexbox. The future isn't going to be on a sexbox, it'll be on a single PC operating the whole house. Imagine having one unit in your basement with terabytes of storage and multiple access wireless connections (ie TV, keyboard, mouse, or a remote for 80 year old bdamshen). Then you can access all of your files from any room and use the system from anywhere, with multiple people at the same time, for TV, internets, and gaming.

The _only_ reason I can see to buy this is that there will be xbox exclusive games.

I can see why Zelda is more engaging than COD Ghost... Really?
Ghosts isnt even out yet, Sparky...
I played cod up till black ops 2 and then got bored with it. I used to be pretty high up on the leaderboards too.
Now I only play bf3 in the slower paced game modes, its just more interesting then just running around and spray and pray.

Offcourse gamers will have different taste in genres, but if you dont recognize Zelda you dont even fit in that category.

Tons of people are too dumb too oparate and maintain a pc, let alone upgrade it.
A console just needs to be plugged in and its set for the next 8 years.
A pc is also not traditionally something you have in the livingroom hooked up to your tv...

There is literally no difference in plugging a PC in next to your TV and hooking up an HDMI, ethernet, sound, and power cable, compared to a sexbox, which requires an HDMI, sound, ethernet or wireless, and a power cable.

Yes, your console is set until it gets the red ring of death, then instead of replacing the power supply, you wait a couple weeks for a new console. I'm on year 8 or so with my current PC, and the only thing I had to change was a video card once, and I use that computer pretty much every day. Do people get daily use out of their sex box on the same unit for 8 years? Only "maintenance" i had to do, besides the vidya card, was to format and reinstall my OS, as I like to do after a few years of intertoobz. I'll admit it was a heady but unnecessary task, but if the chexbox is going to become more integrated, you can expect more viruses and malware on that, too.

I can play all of the current games on my 8 year old CPU, most at very high graphics. Most people who have left the house in the last 10 years have come in contact with a PC, whether at work, at the bank, or elsewhere. Anybody who doesn't know how to log in and run a program on windows 7 or whatever garbage apple has right now, really isn't going to be able to use an xbox.

the big difference is cost. even when it first launched, the ps3 was about $600. it'd be a bit of a challenge to build a comparable PC. you can get a ps3 for $250 nowadays.

Yes, but how much are games for the PC vs games for a console? Free is a damn good price for a PC game, try getting free games for a console.

Hell, Microsoft wants to CHARGE YOU TO BORROW GAMES with the Xbox One. :panic:

are we talking retail price or torrent price? :clue:

also, not every game that's released for a console is ported to PC (which is technically true the other way too).

they offer games for 70% off on those? or bundle deals from indie developers?
they run deals and specials all the time, including ps1 and ps2 games. can't speak for xbox live.

if you pay for the premium service on psn (called plus), there are a number of games offered every month for free, and even more discounts on other items. basic psn network service is free.

psn store also sells / rents movies. why you need that when utub, nutflax, and amerzern perm are available on the system idk.

I'm just saying...it seems like they're making every effort to turn this new axebox into a PC...it even looks like a PC...meanwhile goonsquads all the world over keep saying "HERP DYERP HOW DO I COMPUTERS?" when they're going to be buying what is pretty much a PC.

It's a friggin game console. Let my kids slam a cartridge in it and play some merio twins and I can use my DVD player to surf amazon, my 18 ipads to surf tubernets, and all without having my live fed colonoscopy broadcast to microsoft every 5 minutes. I don't get the appeal.

yea, microsoft seems to be going a little overboard. at least IMO, sony seems to have a better grasp on kepeing the playstation a game console / media center without falling victim to the ZOMG INTEGRATE EVERYTHIGN!!!!1

all in all, everything is more or less on par these days (ybox, paintsation, nintenderp, pc's). whichever one a person chooses comes down to preference, and whether or not theres a specifica game one has.

for instance, when i got my ps3 it was only marginally more expensive than a blu-ray player, AND it played video games. i wanted something that did both, so ps3 it was. macrosoft gambled on hd-dvd and lost (the fact that it was an add-on peripheral clearly indicated that it was an afterthought)

fwiw if anyone remembers, when the ps3 launched, at $600, it was actually one of the least expensive blu-ray players on the market.
