.:585:.
Morning.

Didn't sleep last night since it was fairly humid from all the rain. Looks like I may be pulling the a/c units out of the attic this weekend.

Nothing on the schedule at work today (besides me clocking in so that I get paid) so I shall go on a nice trail ride later this morning. :thumb:

Happy Thursday! Wife and I were going to join the LBS for their group ride tonight, but the weather will be putting the kabosh on that. So, it's looking like an elliptical and/or spinning workout today.

50 minutes of running on the treadmill yesterday, then a brief run outside to test the knee. I think I'm ready to take the running outdoors now. I've been hesitant, but the knee felt great yesterday (the heat and humidity were killer though).

My own world inside my head
Morning, went fishing yesterday, good day catching all day, nothing overly spectacular, best was about a three pound LM...... Waiting for brake parts so I can fix the Mtn bike and go for a ride.

Finally got parts back for the scooter as well, I am less than impressed with the pain that was done but I am out of time and it has to go back together

Yet another (not that I'm complaining) new micro-brewery "soft-opened" in my little town this week: Mountain Toad Brewing. They're official grand-opening is Saturday but apparently so many looky-loos were walking by they just decided to unlock the door, flip the sign to "OPEN" and see what happened. Apparently, they've been swamped.

http://mountaintoadbrewing.com/

I stopped in to check it out yesterday afternoon post-ride... It has a great vibe so far, nice beer garden, good to great beer, and a friendly staff. So far they only have 3 beers on tap: an IPA, a wit, and an amber—all named for local trails and mountain features. Apparently the owners are quite in to biking, and the logo and branding features subtle bike stuff...

The IPA wasn't a full-on in-your-face hop bomb, it had some malt-centered almost sweeter caramel-ish notes to start and then finished hoppier with a nice dry crispness—I liked it a lot. The wit was also very nice, easily drinkable with a hint of something in there that I can only describe as gingery—a very distinct note, very clean tasting, can't quite put my finger on it but the beer itself was also quite good. I only had a sip or two of the amber, but my impression was that it was a good representation of the style.

So far this place is WAY better than the last micro-brewery to open in this town, which is okay but not awesome. Actually, the other place (Cannonball Creek) has painfully slow and not friendly service, average beer that borders on above average sometimes, is loud and noisy, is further from my house, and just doesn't really have a good vibe.

At any rate, most of you don't live here but if you ever visit Colorado and find yourself in Golden... go ride some awesome trails and then go here for beer. Or Golden City Brewery. Or Cannonball Creek, even. Hell... take the tour at Coors. In fact... why even ride bikes in Golden? Just do a beer tour. :D

So MT > CC > GCB sorta?

So MT > CC > GCB sorta?
Negative.

Mountain Toad and Golden City Brewery are both pretty tops, IMHO. Both have good to great beer and a good vibe. GCB's Evolution IPA is still a fave, and they usually have some good seasonals as well. About the only thing lacking with GCB is the consistency can be lacking, every now and again they'll have a batch that isn't quite right or at least quite the same.

CC is quite far below the other two in terms of beer quality, atmosphere quality, and service.

So...

MT ≈ GCB
GCB > CC
MT > CC

Also, moar fun facts... with the opening of our third brewery, I think Golden may have surpassed Portland as the highest number of breweries per capita. I've got Portlands population at 593,820 and with 69 operating breweries that's one for every 11,420 people. Golden's population of 19,035 means one brewery for every 6,345 people. Boosh.

I helped them build that beer garden, glad you like it :) Gonna be brewing with them sometime in the near future too, should be fun. Great group of people they've got there, and the beer's pretty damn good (which is important)

I'll be helping out opening day on Saturday - they'll have a stout on tap too which is also really good. Only two kegs though, so get it while you can.

Interesting. I've had other Golden residents rate CC higher than GCB.

I guess a bit of scientific investigation is required!

And me being a beer-drinking scientist... I guess I should do it. :homer:

This seems to be the way it's trending with the other Golden folk... seems many people I know are trending to go there instead of GCB. I don't dislike CC, I just don't think it's as good as the others.

Super rad... yeah that's a good place. Will you be brewing some of your own recipes, of just helping them brew what they're brewing? I'm gonna miss the grand opening... I'll be crushing trails in Durango and Phil's World so I figure I'll survive...
