So, I know it is now two days later since you asked for some suggestions...if you don't mind, please hang out for a bit more while we argue about more pointless bullsh1t. We should have a solid response soon.

I'm assuming he hit up the Vernon Inn while at Creek. Maybe got some karaoke in?

It's ok. We didn't starve. Ate at Milano, Kites and a random pizza place. Couldn't find anywhere with much nightlife but went to the drive-in at Warwick one night.

In Windham grabbing some food now before course walk and practice tomorrow :-)

good general strategy, but given the recent weather & terrain (ie shale), the course will change quite a bit!
Yeah, I walked Platty in 02 when they anew course that went STF down the mountain. Wasted time. First run, it was unrecognizable. Fun as crap, but definitely not what we walked. :D

Windham has a bit more soil than Platty, but as they're 20 minutes apart the terrain is pretty damn close! Having said that, if they are using the WC course (as opposed to the Citizen's race course), there is a lot more trucked in dirt and permanent stone work.

It's just something I've always done really. Part of my routine at a race. If I don't walk it I don't feel right. It gets in my head and makes me feel unprepared.

Which is odd, as I LOVE riding tracks that I haven't seen blind (e.g. at resorts outside of races). Normally pretty committed on my first run too.

I'd say that a track walk often doesn't help much at all with the first run. Everything looks so different at bike pace. But some things I've spotted on the walk will come into play a few runs in.

But yeah. I like track walks. And when practice doesn't start until 3pm and you're already at the hill that morning....

Moving on, practice was great today. SO loose down there!

Favourite section of the track? Moto Alley i think. Super fun, so fast! Oh and the final jump is sweet too.

Yep. Back to mountain creek on Wednesday too as I have to return to a dentist there for the second part of my vacation root canal. Woohoo! :P

Not sure what we're doing on Tuesday. Dentist has kinda ruine the previous plan for the week.

What is there that's not a million miles from mtn creek? Launch? Seven springs? Not really sure. Will get on the Internet later and try to suss something out.

Had a big smash yesterday and have a knee that resembles a watermelon. Shame as I felt pretty lit and now I'm going to be nursing it down a bit today.

Whiteface is 4 1/4 hours from Mountain Creek. However, there is a free outdoor concert on July 9th with Rusted Root if that helps you decide on when you are coming up here.

Don't bother with Launch. Never been to Seven Springs. My vote is for Blue Mountain in Pennsylvania. I think it's about 2 hrs from Mountain Creek.

Mmmmm. We've been told not to bother with Blue mid-week as they run a (allegedly slow?) shuttle instead of a chairlift. Anyone able to say how bad that is?

Never been to Blue mid-week, but I have a sneaking suspicion that slow shuttling at Blue is greater than chairlift at Launch.

Ah. Blue isn't open mon/tue at all. Might do Whiteface then, tick that one off while it's relatively closeish.

For all those keeping score, that's the ONE post from PSP I've ever been able to read legibly.

How far is Bryce from you? And can't remember...are you going to Snowshoe for a weekend?

We weren't going to due to the distance, but we are loving the races so I think we will now...

What's at Bryce, where is it? Never heard of it.

It's seen better days... but it got me down the hill in a pretty respectable time so I'll let it off :) How did your run go?
mediocre at best, im happy with it as far as my knee goes, but its hard riding with one knee and having to avoid risking any chance to drop a foot. I am not thrilled about it, but it was about as good as it was goin to get-better than giving up

Brad Stone, one of the best designers from Snowshoe has been cutting in all their runs and they just opened for business. Here's the site: http://www.bryceresort.com/Summer/Bryce-Mountain-Bike-Park.aspx

Their FB page has lots of vids and pics, but I can't tell how much time and # of runs you'd get in.

If you miss Snowshoe, you will be sad. Spend two days there and ride both sides of that HUGE terrain.

No offense to any of these parks, but having just ridden Mtn Creek, you will be sadly disappointed with Launch, Bryce, or Blue Mtn. Launch and Bryce have no vert and Bryce has 1 decent trail.
And Blue Mtn. is almost all off-camber shale with little to now flow.

I'm not meaning to knock these parks, but for the sake of this thread, don't bother.

while Blue might not have as many trails at MCBP (since they were closed for a few years and creek's naming/counting of trails is hilarious,) the terrain and the riding is much better. Creek's trails are mostly all groomed out and and are super hard packed. theres nothing fun about their trails imo. Blue is like Platty with more dirt. i also dont see any lack of flow like Launch

Wow...that's an odd perspective. What I like about Mountain Creek is that you can do a little of everything there from the burly to the buttery. And when you can't hold onto your bars anymore, you go do more buttery runs until you get the strength back to do a burly one.

There used to be a knock on Snowshoe that the only way down the mountain was burly every way you turn. But I gotta say, we're all getting one heck of a mix of parks these days and it's AWESOME!!!

A random gopro run I took at Mtn Creek the other day:

In fact it's one of only 2 runs I've recorded all holiday (the other being my Sugarbush race run) - slack!

Pretty good. Lovely loamy soil, lots of rocks and roots. A good mix of tech and flow. A shame that they don't have more trails, and I'd like to spend more time in the trees instead of the open sections at the top. But overall it was really good I thought.
