Just sold a Demo 8 frame, ebay style. Wasn't even sure if the transaction was going to happen bc of the flaky buyer. In the end, he gets the frame, and I get my tiny sum of money.

That was the end, right? Nope. Just got this gem of a message:

"Hello, frame has damage in the scissors cracks that we can do?"

I politely told him I have no idea what he is talking about, as the sentence makes no sense.

Anyone here want to take a guess about what's "wrong" with the frame?

You make this thread and then dont tell us what country you shipped it too?

Sometimes the translator works good with certain languages, others not so much.. I used to use it for Japanese all the time and got some pretty funny translations sometimes.

Mr. Boxx, the title was a joke.

Astoria: I didn't sell a damaged frame, I'm not an asshole, so I have no idea what's going on. Shipped to Florida for a Columbia guy apparently. It was a little iffy.

IH8: that would be unlikely? I had the frame for 5 races, and about 6-10 rides, half of which were on local trails of no gnarly nature. So, I'm confused all around.

ICE: I'm guessing he is a South Park fan and just saw the "scissors me timbers" episode and got too aggro.

This was supposed to be light-hearted post, and a jab at how getting lost in translation is a weird issue. Also curious if other people have had issues with 3rd party people making claims that were erroneous to try and swindle money back - I am not a trusting person, as you might guess.

What a nightmare. I won't sell to anyone who cant talk bike, but since you have, maybe translate your response to Colombian, then back to English and respond?

English: The dog ate a carrot then to a massive sh!t.

To Greek: Ο σκύλος έφαγε ένα καρότο στη συνέχεια σε ένα τεράστιο σκατά

To Spanish: El perro se comió una zanahoria y luego una mierda enorme

To Chinese: 狗吃了胡蘿蔔,然後一個巨大的狗屎

Back to english: Dog ate carrots, then a huge dog feces

Hey, this thing works FINE!

Fro.

You're getting scammed.
I put a DH bike on ebay, it sold to a guy in FL. When I google street viewed the address it showed up as some dodgy shipping company. So I canceled the order and reposted the add stating I will not ship to states void of mountains and/or to shipping companies.
The winner again was to a place in FL near where the last winner was but now some dumpy strip mall. I went through this process a few more times. It seems like these guys get the bike ship it off to S.A. then claim the product was damaged.
One of the winners (third time around) was a hacked account; some grandma who's entire list if feedback was old lady stuff.

In the Northwest.
I just sold a DHX RC4 to an address in Florida, but his Paypal account said Colombia. Reading this makes me a little nervous.

EDIT: just checked the address it sent to, yup some dumpy warehouse strip mall thing.

Wow, I was NOT expecting to read that! No pics or anything else - I think it is dead in the water, I haven't heard back from them at this point. I think they realized I knew where this was headed, right from the start. What a shame it was so shady, and the frame probably didn't go to a psyched up grom or adult looking to have fun on a budget.

Great feed back gang, thanks for responding.

so, does anyone know if ebay is doing anything to combat this? i really like ebay, but their custo service is horrible when you have an issue. i dont like sending emails or making threads that may never get a reply, id rather call and talk to someone

I'm with you on this one! I'm not sure what action to take against this situation, as I said before, that's why I've turned to the forum for advice. I'll obviously just keep putting them off. They can't really make a legit claim against me because it would blow their "operation", so it's a weird stalemate. A shame all around really...as I said too, I've been selfishly relieved to hear that this isn't a isolated case, but it needs some better resolution for sure.

And last, but not least:

Him: "excuse me if only annoying thing I want to know if I apply for the warranty through you? Thanks a lot"

Uh huh. Why was that not the first thing he said? I don't get this...for your viewer pleasure/dismay, I have included the email I sent him, which drew the response from above:

I'm been riding bikes my whole life, am a professional racer, and have a high degree of knowledge and understanding about bike frames and how they are made. From what you have described, I am inclined to believe that there was an ncident with a female pig (a sow) and a house hold item (a pair of scissors), and some sort of blemish developed from the two interacting (fissure). I understand that English might not be your first language, that is ok, but what I am trying to tell you is this: I cannot understand what you are trying to communicate, nor will I further discuss this matter with you. I frankly do not believe you that there is any legitimate damage to the structural integrity of the frame. You are welcome to send me pictures. But the pictures I had posted very clearly showed what you were buying and any imperfections in the frame should have been noticeable then - which I do not believe to be present; I would not sell a frame that was not structurally sound.

I cannot be held accountable for damage incurred during shipping, that is something you would have to talk to UPS about.

This whole exchange has been fairly sketchy, especially the part where the shipping address was an industrial establishment, not a residential one. What ever you are up to, knock it off, I will not tolerate you badgering me without photographic evidence or a proper/coherent explanation in English, or translatable Spanish for that matter. I write harshly because I want you to understand that I do not take this lightly - the price you paid for this item was more than reasonable, it left my house in working/safe condition as far as I could tell, and I will not be rebuked over the internet about this.

If you wish to present me with proof of an issue, go right ahead. Otherwise, stop trying to scam me, I know what you're doing.
