I'd like to pick up a relatively inexpensive skate style helmet for fvcking around on my jump bike, when a full face is overkill and I don't want to smash up my fancy pants road/xc helmet. Problem is I have a giant head. Like XL D3 and XL POC are too small giant. I've never found anyone with an XXL D3 to try on so that might work, but I've been sticking with XL 661s for a while now because I know they actually fit. So given that, anyone have a suggestion for a DJ lid that might fit?

I've got a big melon, like 661 Hurricane Flight XXL and TLD D3 XXL big. I wear an XXL POC Trabec for trail riding. If something is too tight, it's always on my forehead. For DJ lids, Giro helmets work for me, but they're loose side to side. Bern are much better, but still not perfect. That seems to be he hardest style of helmet to find a decent fit.

Nick Larsen, head of Charge bikes once said he used a Protec lid, large as possible, with the pads shaved down to nearly nothing in an effort to make something fir his melon shaped head

ive been on the lookout for as non intrusive as possible helmet when i go out and ride some mellow single track on the dj.. glad i found one finally, as i wasnt using a lid before.

i recommend the protec buckey helmet:

its usually fairly cheap (35-40 bones), very light weight, and its a super light skate helmet.. you dont notice it on your head when youve been out riding.. maybe this is the same helmet that trib is talking about.

he said for messing around on his jump bike. I'm going to assume that means airs and, if **** really gets crazy, maybe a few bar tweaks.

The protec is more than suitable for such things, it's the profile crank of helmets; a much copied design that's tried, tested and used by nearly the entire BMX/dirt scene.

It's not as protective as a full face, but you have to really **** something up to not be able to get in a decent tuck and roll when bailing from a jump bike.

Protec B2 is an actual bike helmet that looks a lot like the Buckley. I have a pretty big head and I'm in a large, so id say its worth a shot. GHY in Renton is having a huge moving sale right now- might be a good chance to try one on and score a deal.

where the trails are
I have a 23.5" head.

Old lid that fit was a Giro Semi. Fits really well, actually.
New lid that fits great is the Fox Transition, which happens to be $20 on the Clymb right now.

That thing's not going to protect your head, one bit. You might as well ride without a helmet.
it helps, i hit a branch once, of course it didnt feel great, but it would have been worse without a helmet.. yeah its not recommended for bikes, but oh well. its either that or i dont wear a half helmet on the local trails.. ive got a fullface for the big stuff. i didnt watch that video, and im assuming they didnt rate my helmet very high (provided it was in there), but heres how i look at it:
first hand experience>guy in a video

its a last resort kinda thing.. i naturally always protect my head when i fall, so if there is a time in which i cant do so, that is my 'last resort'
