Trail looks pretty team, looks like it might need the sea otter treatment where somebody comes in and builds an artificial rock garden :D

Practicing at Keystone a couple days then heading down Thurs night. Will Joey Schusler repeat his ProGRT Angel Fire win? Will Silvestry have his big day? Will Gwin and Mullaly show up and dominate? Will Leland Turner smoke the field? Probably not.

Will Full Trucker make a surprise appearance in a vain attempt at Cat 2 domination, after only having ridden a DH bike a handful of times this season, and then blame his pitiful result on the unadjustable high-speed compression damping of his rear shock?

Shockingly, no. But I really should turn the hose on my rear shock, it needs moar dampening for shizz.

aren't the nationals supposed to be on the same weekend in every country?
This is 'Merica, bud. We do what we want. ;)

just Santa Cruz...
Not to be snide... but, given the current lack of support/organization/interest in DH racing in the US, isn't a very isolated place like Angel Fire a bad choice for our highest profile domestic race...?

It's a reasonable drive from CO, UT, NM, AZ, and most of CA & NV. You can fly into Denver or Albuquerque and it a few hours drive in a rental car. It may not be within 2 hours of a large MTB population but it's reasonably easy to get to for any American who wants to race. AND it's a mountain with plenty of vert, a good trail crew, usually good weather*, and a history of successfully hosting major races. I don't see what's to knock. What venue would be better? And by better I don't just mean close to you and your friends.

*All 3 major races here this year have now seen enough rain to keep down dust but not get muddy, warm but not hot temps, and not too many lightning closures.

Sounds like gwin was 7 seconds up at nationals, so probably still at a top 10 pace on a world cup level. Shoulda been up by 14 seconds!

People forget that despite Gwin's 'disastrous' Wc season so far he's still way ahead of the next fastest american.

Having said that Gee is doing the UK proud but it's not been a great season for Hart, Beaumont, Peat, Fairclough etc.

Looks like the aussie/NZ domination will continue for sometime I reckon. Good to see Remi mix it up last weekend though.

Those womens times are telling...I posted somewhere recently that Anne Caro considered a decent time to be within about 30s of the mens time. Jill is nearly a minute back on Gwin and Jackie is a minute 20 back...

Are women really that bad at riding bikes in the US?

11 and a half seconds huh. That is not a shabby way to take nats. Maybe he's not sh1tting the bucket when he says he crashed a couple times during the race run, he might genuinely be going stupid fast. Can't wait for MSA after a result like that.

And yeah, I know, beating logan bingelli by 11 seconds isn't quite the same as beating gee atherton or greg minnaar or sam hill or blahblahblah by any seconds, but I'm excited to see this play out.

Over your shoulder whispering
Apparently bad weather for Luca Shaw and Jay Fesperman in Juniors. Tough break for North Carolina riders...nope, another North Carolina rider wins Junior National Champs AGAIN!!!

Herndon and other created GROM racing and they have done nothing but put out winner after winner. If you want the future of US racing, look to the grom's. :D

Congrats Walker. Watching him chasing Herndon with Luca hunting them both at the BMX track was always so fun.

Lets talk about Dillon Lamar for a minute, how the hell is a dude from TX on the national stage such a goddamn pinner, there are no hills. wtf.

Also, ever notice how east or west coast, it always seems to be the CA guys on top, followed by the CO/UT, followed by more CA guys?

I guess the overall point I'm making is that east coast rox aren't as gnarbar.

Cuz Dillon is a smooth pinner who raced the MSC circuit for years. He said he made several mistakes in his race run so there's more where that came from. Did anyone hear or see results from the speed trap? It was malfunctioning and I don't think it read my speed. The best I saw it give me all weekend was 36mph but it seemed to miss my better runs so I was betting someone big would do 40 or 41.

Edit: Also, is there a prize for being fastest Monkey?

Cuz Junior X got rained on. It slowed their times and I'm guessing Luca Shaw had a crash. The top qualifying Junior Xs must have had sloppy conditions. The first riders to drop had better times for the most part. Their qualifying times were 10sec faster than the 15-16 winning time of :55. If they'd had a dry run the top Junior X times were predicted to be :35-:40.
