Wonder when it's going to be open. maybe if you go there early after it has been opened it will be good.
Probably for pass'portes this weekend. Could go there next week but I think I'll hit morgins first since I missed it every year.

We want to go there for the first time. Still not sure when, but it will be likely fall. How long are the lifts open?

Write to Frango, the crew is riding. I have crashed on a stupid small jump in Les Gets and I'm immobilized, probably for the rest of the trip.

@norbar. sorry to here that...
hope you feel better soon.
Will go to the ambulatorium for some rtg today but I rode down les gets and went back to morzine on my own so I suspect I'm ok.

Look out for a polished glory with a 180mm fox kashima and you will find Frango. He is pretty small so he may be easy to miss ;)

Was in Chatel today. Mint as always but forgot about the long queue. Why the **** do they only transport one rider and one bike at the bottom lift and two at the one above?

Other than that they have a few new tracks in les lindarets but they are a bit weird. Good shape but party uphill so that you really have to know it and pedal/push to get in the landings.

Go to les crosetes ride the black dh run. It is awesome. Especially after it rains a bit.

A few friends and I are planning on heading to the Portes du Soleil-area shortly after Eurobike (end of August) to do some Enduro riding. We've never been to the area before and we haven't booked anything yet, so I'm looking for some advice which town to stay in, which areas to hit for sure, where to stay, what to bring etc.

We'll be on 160mm bikes so we're looking for some epic descends, ideally ones that we can take the Gondola to the top. Not neccessarily looking for gnarly DH stuff as I haven't been on a bike in over a year, but we might throw in a lap or two in the park if the trails are fine for smaller bikes.

Any advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance!

most of pds will be closed after eurobike, the season is quite short there.

Thanks for the feedback!

So basically all the lifts in Morzine and Morgins will have shut down by the time we get there whereas the gondolas and chair lifts in Chatel, Champery and Les Gets will be running still?

Is there one best area to do all mountain riding, or are we better off setting up a base camp somewhere in Chatel or Les Gets and explore the entire area from there? What's the best town to stay at, as in: where should we be able to find a fairly affordable place that is suited for MTB riders?

Thanks :)

the area is more for dh biking, i wouldn't go there just to ride my am bike. there are better suited regions for that
That's kind of what I wasn't hoping to hear, though I already expected the entire area to be more towards the DH end of riding.

Any areas close to Portes du Soleil that are better suited for AM riding? A friend of mine is flying out of Geneva, so we don't want to be too far away from that area.

Went to Chatel today, ive been feeling really rather meh about the whole trip but cleaning chatel cheered me up
just home from a 3 week stint based in Morzine and found the riding in Chatel was the best by far.(well worth the 30/40 min XC hike on a dh bike accross)
there is more or less all types to suit all people, spent a full day riding the IXS cup track alone and loved it.

some of the more bike park stuff aswell was very enjoyable, although those switchbacks below the lift towards the top suck. found some nice DH over the right hand side of the mtn and can safely say those jumps on air voltage are way out of my comfort zone.

Chatel not to be missed, would love to fly back for the IXS in Sept.

Komatrail or sth like that? That track is awesome. a bit too slow speed and narrow but I really liked it.

Air voltage in my opinion would be much more manageable if the track alone wasn't so technical since the jumps themselves are not that big. The problem is what is before and after every one of them. It's an intimidating track compared to same size jumps for example in Maribor

Also strangely enough I'm fine after the crash. Just bruised bones and a nasty cut. But I found on my go pro vid my 5.10 shoe was a bit faster than I was.

not 100% sure what the name was however it runs in parallel with air voltage and can be accessed beside the wallride feature on air voltage.

there is another track up near IXS which begins with a few minor stepdowns, the tracks actually really good and turns rather steep rather quickly.

for one reason or another Morgins didnt do it for me at all, trails seemed rougher then previous years and the impending thunderstorm didnt help much. on the way home we decided to go up Super Chatel, unofrtunatley we were unable to find the trail which we were told about but ended up riding some singletrack into dried up river beds.
that mountain has some serious potential

Is the IXS-track on the Air-Voltage side of the chairlift?

I also recon Morgins to be pretty rough. You have to be fresh or have good stamina to ride the trails there to their full potential.

no to get to IXS you head left from the lift and up the fire road, you will hit a series of tables but you need to keep going untill the road starts to head uphill. It will be the 3rd track on the right of the road. there's a relatively blind drop
about 5 secs in (thats when you know your on the right one) roll down and enjoy

check out the fairclough talk-cam below, the distance he goes out of that fly out is insane
