So I keep hearing about how mingnar is going to retire next year, but I have actually seen anything substantive, is that an e-rumor or something else? Seems like he's still killing it pretty hard...
Someone asked him about it at Mt St Anne and he said "I have two more years on my contract". Maybe it's only a letter of intent...

Minaar still has 2 years left on scruz contract I think.

My top 5

Minaar
Graves
Gee
Sick mick
Gwin
Peaty as a wild card.

I don't see anyone winning this race without clips.

fun fact: Steve Smith is pretty quick, does not suck at pedaling, and has some momentum going into this race. He might do better then graves. i'd love to see a top 10 from peaty, but I doubt we'll see a top 5. Lets be honest here: this race will be won by one of the following people: gee, smith, mingnar, mick, or gwin.

Graves crashed in the enderpo today and his leg looked like it had a big gash. I'm not sure if he is going to be racing now?

Greg will win on a stock v-10 with all stock components (suspension not so much) and no dropper seatpost or any other fancy **** for PMB.
I reckon Gwin might race that 'demotus' which B.Benedict had at Whistler.

The GT team will be on 650s along with Polygon and other jokers.

I think sikmik will podium but don't see him have the beating of the other, much like his medal at Mt. Stromlo.

Will be interesting to see a certain Aussie former world champ racing devil pedals for this special occasion

No one will touch Gee on this course. Guy looks fit. Never looked stronger on the pedals.

A couple of these flat "lame" courses are cool. They push suspension, component, and tire designs in a different direction.
YUP! Yes, it's got quite a bit of pedalling involced, and it isn't that steep. But...look at the size of the jumps, the speed at which you need to clear them, the rocks they do actually have, and you'll see that it is (in its own way) a pretty ballsy course. Nowhere near as ballsy as VDS, Ft. Bill, or MSA, but it's still cool. Just checkout this vid from PMB last year!

So Ridemonkey, lets get down to brass tacks: If Gwin wins, does the demo still suck? Is Gwin having a ****ty year only having won world champs?

Gwin won't win 'cos Jesus is pissed he stopped dedicating wins to him.

How can the Demo ever be a decent DH bike without a patented suspension configuration....

question re: juniors and the changes in rules. since rude was the only jr who opted to race elite during the season, does he race elite at worlds or does he still race as a jr (like is done in many nat'l federations)?

For sure, they all have to race the same track, fastest person wins on the day...just had that thought in my head. I wonder if, since it is not technical, if someone who is simply not very fast on real tracks, like a Kintner, could walk away as world champion? Or a dark horse like that in the mens as well?
Subtle!

same was said about canberra and it was two 10 inch bikes won, Peat on the V10 and Brook on the Ancillotti... certainly no trail bikes

just sayin
I'm not convinced they were running stock v10's. I know they kept on saying they were running stock bikes but if I recall correctly they only ran those frames for that one race. Schladming was a couple of weeks later and none of them were running their world champs frames.

Seems like clever marketing to me. When did the V10 start coming with the two travel options?

a dh bike will win this, people who eff around with switching to stuff they aren't used to usually don't fair as well as those who just go with the status quo.

Thing is, there's quite a few massive jumps and big rock gardens that a short travel enduro bike will have a tougher time with. I guess we'll see come sunday.

Does anyone know the time it's on here? NY time I guess.

rigid 20" bikes are ridden off massive jumps more frequently than bikes with bigger wheels and 8" of travel. your argument is invalid.

need a dh track
It's one of the fastest tracks.
This isn't the backyard Lawn.
Lots of compression's, big hits...

Minnaar always preferred his V10 at Sea Otter.
My armchair analysis says this track is 20x more DH than Sea Otter.

Yea ok there bud! hahahahahahah.

Go watch last years race again, and see how time was made up in the rock gardens. While it's not a gnar DH course, it's still a DH course that warrants the use of suspension, not some x-games DH bmx course......

But hey, you'll prove my argument invalid when teams show up with freshly painted 20" rigid bikes and guys with iq's lower than the percentage of Utah beer show up to ride them helmetless. I mean, this does happen with more frequency right????

Edit: :P

The UCI are just still down on funds from the whole Rocky Roads scam and opted for the option of having the XC and the DH run on the same track..
