Im in the market for a good helmet, i ride without and i ride mostly urban around the city and some canal/wash paths...
i have gone down from time to time and figured id make a small investment to protect my brain! LOL
Id like to find a helmet that has a built in headphone set so that im not wearing the ear buds under the helmet. I like the way the POC helmets fit but they dont offer anything with audio...is there such?
thanks guys/gals

you really shouldn't use headphones, ESPECIALLY if you mostly ride in the city.

That said, it shouldn't be too hard to modify any lid to house some ear buds. Many of the ski/snowboard helmets have integrated speakers. Maybe look at those for ideas?

It is illegal in most states to ride a bike with headphones in. The best way, if you want to do it, is to have a set of ear buds with one side cut off. Have the earbud in your non-traffic side (usually right in the US), so that you get tunes and can hear traffic.

I might be wrong, but when I hear 'riding urban' winging through traffic isn't what comes to mind.
Stair gaps, grinding monuments/rails, smoking dope and launching loading docks are what I think of.
All of which are better with tunes at little to no risk to others.

I think giro has some new music compatible helmets; at least the new DH lid is.

don't forget to tell him not to run with scissors or not to sit too close to the tv as well...
That too. :D

I thought the same thing. I still think a little extra awareness is good when you're riding around cars and presumably walkers/peds. My perspective of street riding involved about 5 million people all driving (poorly) at the same time. YMMV.

Yeah, I lived in Wicker Park/Ukranian Village for 6 years and bike commuted to Evanston everyday.
For a 'bike friendly' city chicago was hell on a bike but ironically still the best way to get around.

lol you guys a riot, i do ride responsibly and defensively as i do need to make it back home for the next day!
I ride with both head phones in when see fit but in certain areas of town and on the busy streets i leave one out so that i can hear other things going on around me. the one reason i would have with audio in a helmet as a concern would be the fact that i couldnt really remove one bud as i rode, but still just wanted to see what was out there for options. thanks everyone...but it may just keep to what i have been doin, and yes stair cases court yards and corporate patios are best riden jumped and flown throw with both head phones in with your favorite tracks playin loud! Lionel Richie Dancin on the ceiling right?!!! LOL

I have hit my head a bunch of times, pavement, rocks, pedestrians, clergy, trees, children, etc.... I never wear a helmet and I'm just fine..... If you listen to Music you can pretend you can't hear the cops and can get away easier....

Recently bought a Fox Striker helmet but I had to return it. Just doesn't fit my head correctly.

If possible, try on the helmet first before buying.
